Hit-Boy has no recognizable sound which is honestly what production should go back to. We went through a decade of seeing a producer’s name next to a track and immediately knowing what it sounds like.

The West Coast has better all around producers that are able to adapt to any style specifically the East Coast?

You have DJ Muggs with House of Pain and Soul Assassins.

Dr. Dre with Nas, The Firm, Jay Z, 50, Busta, Rakim, Eve, etc.

Alchemist with Mobb Deep and Hit-Boy with Nas.

Like all of those producers have compilations with those rappers too. It's not just a few collabs.
Isn't dj muggs from New york

ATL run this producer sh1t. No other region or state can come close.
Shout out to VA!
I see your Atl basement squad and I respect that, but outside of ATL artist where is the impact?

Here I will give you a prodigy (another one) because you came with not enough for a pioneer like Dilla....

No not at all… and any real hip hop purist will tell you the same…. Funny how you over look all east coast producers who have left their stamp on the game. And solidified themselves… and do not get sh1t twisted. I love Muggs, Dre, and Alc but they were also heavily influenced by the east coast sign. AlC was sent to NYC by Muggs to study under Primo, Havoc, Large Professor, etc… please do research before making these silly post… shows you have 0 knowledge on any of these dudes… lol!!
I agree. There are a lot of unrecognized east coast producers. One thought that came to mind was ICE Cube went to the east coast to have his own solo album produced by east coast producers

To be honest I never really liked Dre as a producer. He's good but he seems very over rated.

Timberland seems better as an all around producer rather than Dre
Lol I’ll probably never value your music opinion bruh, and that’s fine. I’m sure you could care less about mine too. But a n1gga sh1tting on Dre is fu#king crazy to me.

Those "mega" producers shelf lives be pretty short there fam. Neither of those legends have has a relevant track in a decade, while the "mom and pop" guys are still earning credits posthumously, as well as Grammy and Emmy nods in the last few years. Just saying... Ask some of the hip hop legends are they taking Dilla or PDD/Toomp? Atl was moreso regional, Detroit had a reach that extended state to state. And please let's keep it hip hop because we don't want to talk about music in general. We not MoTown for no reason fam.

These boys don't understand, like really don't lol. Dilla was genius level with this sh1t, not just a cool beat maker who could "make hits". My dude helped create/recreate a genre, Starbucks be playing Dilla inspired sh1t lol. But hey I guess some guys had a few "hits" 10-15 years ago so they on Dilla level

My son is into making music so I have him reading Dilla Time. I was chilling with in his room last night and I had him watching a Tracklib video on Dilla's production method. My son always says your music growing up is better and has been on a De La kick since they dropped on streaming.

New Orleans sound hasn’t been relevant since early 2000s cash money
Houston sound hasn’t been relevant since asap rocky came out

Bro you are a great man! Real sh1t man, you have already set him up for something great and it doesn't even have to be him as a musician his love for it can open up all types of avenues (especially considering the "music stock" is set to rise expeditiously in the next 10 years).

Dilla Time is key for anyone who wants to understand evolution in hip-hop and music in general. The stories about Questlove having to basically retrain his brain to keep up with the Dilla off timed snare, man. It's crazy because Aretha was also known to sing off note, and just do experimental things vocally back in the 60s. It's rooted up here in Detroit man, it's something in the lifestyle that makes us gravitate towards something original. But Dilla was special. Hard to compare him with any of the hip hop producers imo he is more in a Prince lane. He actually invented certain sonics and drum patterns. It's crazy bro. Dilla Timefeel? Like huh? Lol.

Just stating the reason why Dre prolli not rated higher…maybe Timbaland had or does have a supporting cast…idk.

Bruh… Wasnt nobody bumpin jdilla more than ATL sh1t? What are you smoking… ATL and the south changed the whole music landscape. JDilla was just a tribe called quest copy… ATL dubbed a whole new music genera.

Again… You cant compare the bedroom producers against our legends. You say keep it hiphop because you dont wana go down that path.. We are still getting grammys today, what you saying?

And for the motown fables..Barry wasnt making beats bruh….. he was a label…and 85% of the real groups/producers at motown wasnt from MI. Motown was just a label.. lets not false claim like the cnote example..

Its gotta be a regional thang….forget what the hiphop legends think, we talking about the masses of people ..….. The producers you naming aint nobody heard of mass wise..
“And for the Motown Fables, 90% of those producers were from the south and other areas that migrated to motown.. again, lets not false claim the D bruh..”
Still respect to the Dee though..

Lets not forget since you are Mr. hiphop… James Brown is the most sampled in hiphop period. not Motown if you wana keep it “hiphop”… thats who had the most impact… we can go producer against producer from the D… You dont want this smoke bruh.. Trust me..

I'm fairly familiar with Dilla's production, but after reading through this thread, I feel like I need to get reacquainted; almost feel like I'm missing something. Personally, I feel like he mainly stood out because of the way he chopped his samples; the intricacies of the process. He had an undeniable technique; gotta give him that.

The guy was a professional micro-chopper. His ability to make the sample talk (literally) is genius in itself.
