Xbox Gamepass is helping the entire gaming industry

Ths has been debated by another industry insider who says the data doesnt support that this means people are spending more on games, it just means digital has migrated game spending from physical. People are choosing to buy digital games rather than physical, especially due to Covid, so it is helping subcription services growth, but its not helping retail stores growth. This year though digital sales fell 2.6% from the same time it was last year in markets like the UK, while physical rised 2.5% during the holidays for gift and presents.

Digital sales are not discernable from physical even on the NPD website. Xbox does not publish their digital sales numbers with NPD. Not many publishers do. People have been asking this guy to show the data he is using to draw this conclusion for peer review and confirmation, but its basically a "trust him, hes an insider" type of response when they ask those questions. We need more publishers to publish their digital sales. All we have are physical numbers where Sony consoles sale the majority of games for 3rd party publishers. It would be helpeful if publishers like Xbox showed their their digital sales growth vs retail.

id never in a million years buy a xbox.. however i just got a new rig n first thing i put on that bi#ch was game pass. call a spade a spade microsoft knocked that out the ball park.

had to call technical support to remember my login details its been so long, but a welcomed return nonetheless

it's good for games that are likely not going to sell well.. those devs can at least get a bit of money up front which is more than they would've made off a game that would've likely sold like sh1t anyways

thats why I said its good for smaller devs that are releasing games that most people don't give a sh1t about and not good for bigger devs that are likely to make more money off sales than an upfront payment from GP
