For the first 3-4 years of his career, Tom was definitely more of a game manager. After that though, definitely a game changer. You don't get the responsibility of sitting in 5 wide majority of games and breaking down a defense if you're strictly a game manager.

Brady was a game manager. As they said, elite game manager. A game manager isn't a knock. There are levels to the term game manager. Not all gamechangers can lead you to a title. Not all game managers can lead you to a title. But you will win more titles with game managers than you would gamechangers. Give me the game manager over the game changer anyday

Yeah that just sounds like some Jordan Peterson word salad tbh. Tom Brady is elite at reading defenses, has elite accuracy, elite pocket presence and an above average arm. You don't have to run a 4.4 to be a game changer.

Again, name ONE other "game manager" qb who was tasked with sitting in 5 wide and dissecting defenses, to the point even their best WRs became expendable.

This. I always thought the general consensus was he started to shed the game manager label in 2006 and went away completely from it in 2007 after they got Moss.

Game Manager is and always has been a knock.
ALWAYS been used on dudes who were mid, or below.
When a reckless influencer is held accountable he might gaslamp and wiggle his way around it.

Measures are taken to garner attention.
That can be seen in how people speak, how people act, and how people dress.

One thing I know is that cam newton was an outstanding quarterback.

When you take a deep dive he dominated for damn near a decade.

Did he manage the game?
Eh

But he was spectacular.

And his style is fire so $TFU

When I hear the term “Game Manager,” I think of a quarterback who plays smart, sticks to the system, and executes the offense the way it’s designed. They don’t take reckless chances, and they almost never lose you a game. And no, not every Game Manager is a Mark Sanchez type. The best ones can actually win games by reading defenses and exploiting an opponent’s tendencies. They rely on preparation because they might lack superior arm talent.

Then there’s the “Game Changer.” These are the players who can flip a game on its head in a single play—for better or worse. They can win you a game with a highlight-reel moment, but the risks they take can just as easily swing it the other way, like Brett Favre in his gunslinger days. The rare, elite Game Changers like Patrick Mahomes have the talent and creativity to take over a game and never look back. I do understand that I look at things differently.

Brady won them those Super Bowls
When he is taken out of the equation the results speak for themselves
He made average players look like above average talented players
He elevated those teams to greatness - through his play and leadership

Could he by himself be the difference of a win like Cam, Lamar, Vick could/can
In the individual sense NO

Within the context of the team was he the difference and major influence
Yes

I agree with Cam in his definition

Brady right now is the best to ever do it IMO
Mahomes included although he may pass Brady one day and it will only be because he has more Super Bowl wins

He smart enough to hold the game down and not make any mistakes BUT talented enough to pull a rabbit out of his a$s and WIN you a game

The system my guy. Managing the game means you aren't a gunslinger and we know Tom wasn't that. The most elite game managers are taking what the defense gives them all game and plays the percentages because they know that will win every time. Keeping it simple. Then if a shot is there and you want to be greedy take it. Gamechangers spend games going high risk low reward. Managers spend games going low risk high reward. They know keeping the opposing defense on the field longer breaks them mentally and physically.
It's similar to basketball where you don't want to spend all game letting your superstar go one against five just because they can or your team coming down just to take the first shot you get. The best teams, the winning teams play through everybody by moving the ball and bodies to work the defense each time down them start hitting them with big plays because they're tired of defending entire shot clocks.
Or with boxing how you jab and body shot wearing down the opponent down and when the opportunity comes you take your big shot.

That's who Brady was. He didn't mind working down to get a FG. The difference between guys like Brady vs guys with more physical talent like Rodgers, Favre, Josh Allen or Cam and others is they wanted the touchdowns/big plays or wanted to use their superhuman gifts to get it done. Brady said I'll just hit this slot guy or TE for the first down each time. He kept the game simple, playing it with his mind more than his physical talent. That is the epitome of a game manager. Opposing coordinators don't change their entire defense up for game managers they stress "just do your job" to their guys and we will be okay. When those avenger type gamechangers are on the schedule they will change everything thing up for that one guy because they know that one guy can put pressure on every part of your defense every single play. In their minds, they feel like we can't stop them we just get lucky. They don't say that vs the thinking game manager style QBs.

Now, I will be back. I have to Google who the hell Jordan Peterson is.

But the how he pulls the rabbit out is what I believe determines if you are the changer or manager. I feel like his best moments of pulling out something amazing was by taking what the defense gave him and walk right down the field with smart throws and let his playmakers go do something with it. The "gamechanger" is the player we expect to use their feet or their cannon arms to pick up yardage quickly and pull off the amazing finish.

Give me the methodical game manager type any day.

In your eyes did you remove the label because his team kept winning trophies or did he stop because his talent/skill level increased and his style of play changed? I ask because I don't believe his skill and talent level increased or his game changed. He just got wiser and stronger mentally on the field. It's hard for me to change the description based on team awards and success.

I think we just have different definitions of game managers. Alex Smith is a game manager. No matter how he played - his ceiling was low and his floor was high. He wasn't going to win you a game but he could hold on to the W if an elite defense supported him. Tom Brady goes down and wins the fkng game every time there was an opportunity to do so.

Being a "gun slinger" is not the anti-thesis of a game manager. Jay Cutler was a gun slinger ... so was Rex Grossman. Aaron Rodgers is more physically gifted than Tom, he just wasn't as precise when the lights got bright. Game managers don't STEP UP AND DOMINATE every time the lights get bright. Thats what superstars do.

Tom Brady is the furthest thing from a game manager.

Warren Sapp is an idiot. Implying that Troy was a game manager is a complete disservice. Troy Aikman won a SB MVP. He's always bringing up who had more TD passes when talking about Brad Johnson and Troy Aikman. Johnson had more TD passes than Roger Staubach and Bart Starr too. Were those guys game managers? fu#k no. Johnson has a whole 1 more TD pass than Aikman and played 3 more years than Aikman. The dude acts like he has 20 or 30 more TD pass.

Aikman played in a controlled run first offense in an era where throwing TD passes were not at a high volume. If you threw for 30 TD passes in a season that was very impressive but that wasn't the design of the Cowboy offense. Sapp has such a hatred and jealousy of the 90s Cowboys. Always bad mouthing Emmitt, Michael and Troy. Meanwhile Sapp played with Ronde Barber, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch, and Simeon Rice, and Hardy Nickerson. Yeah Sapp you definitely weren't playing with a full stack on defense lol.

Cam was giving his own opinion on the terms.
Many people don’t see it that way.
Tom Brady owns every significant QB record. And people calling him a game manager.
He dominate from beginning to end.
Defenses had to prep all week to stop this man lol wtf yall talking about lol

Tom Brady threw one touchdown during the entire 2001 playoffs. They won the Super Bowl. Nobody was prepping for tom brady until after the 2nd super bowl.
