We all know Wayne had the best run in rap history, but were his featured verses AMAZING? Or were we just captured by the aura and presence of Wayne simply being on the track?

If you listen to his features from back then, a lot of them feel like he started handing out throwaway verses. When your doing over 100 features in a year, and artists are just happy and content with you just BEING on the track, it’s possible you can just give them ANYTHING. They just want you on the song

Basically I’m asking, was he really murdering his features? Was he killing songs? Was there greatness and effort in his verses? Or was the hype of Wayne alone on the track enough to say how great the verse was?

He did that song with pleasure P and just recited Aaliyah’s verse from “I Don’t Wanna”

What was the Best feature Wayne had during his run?

My favorite feature probably because he had a subject in mind and rapped to it. Too many of his features during that time was just random sh1t that rhymed

50 and 93 snoop and 96 pac had the best run then followed by Wayne . But yea I said this back then that a lot of yall was so caught up in his hype back then every track people were lying and said he killed it. Now as they’ve gotten older they like wtf. Dnt get me wrong. Some tracks he did kill but most were just rambling.

Yea this was dope. Aint heard this in a minute

I like how you could just tell what era of Wayne this was lol

But you’re right, artists didn’t care if he was just rhyming to rhyme they just wanted that “featuring lil Wayne”

Reminds me of when that BMF song came out and rappers, Chingy in particular, told lex “idc what beat u got, i just need anything that sounds like BMF”. Cuz that beat was so hot

I always thought Wayne was cool, just supremely overrated.

I think he said he was the best rapper and people just accepted it. I never at any point thought he was the best rapper. He did have an amazing run though.

He's a good rapper, never saw him as great. Me personally, I've never seen him as best in the south. Definitely at one point, he was the most successful.

I have to disagree. What Wayne did was on a bigger scale than snoop, 50 and pac.

Mixtape run
Over 100 features
Then dropping the huge lolipop song
And then the Carter 3 which went platinum in a week

What he was doin in music, and that level to the point you had EMINEM wanting to diss him out of jealousy, winning grammys. (Best rap album). Lolipop (best rap song) And just being EVERYWHERE at the time.

I will give u props on that last take tho. I’m listening to them old songs he was featured on and it’s like “……. These are some average bars”

Dawg was on “I can’t believe it” with T pain just mumbling and giggling.

I like Wayne when he was on that “I’m Me” type sh1t. What’s he’s been on recently on his features have been nice tho. That “Big Dog” “Oprah and gayle” sh1t was dope

My favorite Wayne style. Carter 1 and 2 was great too, but his style on Lights Out and his whole delivery and flow was more New Orleans. He lost his NO as time went on

Wayne’s is pretty weird. He was killing verses then he got to a point where he lowered the bar in favor of humor/stand out silly lines (something he passed on to Nicki) and autotune. Like he definitely spit a lot of bullsh1t and had n1ggas acting like it was the greatest sh1t just because it was Wayne. I always say Wayne the most overrated rapper of all time.

Never thought he had the best run because the best contributions he placed were because of other rappers songs. Jumping on a track someone built based on their vision and creativity doesn’t make me believe you’re this amazing rapper because you one upped them. Amazing run, loved many of his verses and I’d go on Livemixtapes to get his music, but the truth is the truth.

Lyrically I think his peak was Tha Carter 2, it’s just that the mid 2000s era of rap was a significantly weaker era and he was one of the best during it.

It's funny, I was listening back to prime Wayne and I was thinking man, this n1gga ain't saying sh1t but despite that you can just feel the swagger and charisma from this dudes voice like crazy.

Even his classic mixtapes, when I really put the lyrics under scrutiny, they're not top tier status bars. But I'll be damned if the n1gga don't sound cool as hell saying them.

So yeah, his run as "Best Rapper Alive" was clearly due to his persona and the crazy amount of hype around him. Definitely wasn't rapping anywhere near the best.
