In 2000....artist still sold singles so while the song itself isn't the most radio friendly(even with the radio edit)...the song/video was iconic and people went to go buy the single and album.

What's crazier is that Em didn't have his 1st number one until Lose Yourself

this while Em is big in the hip hop world, in the pop world you had people really selling. back then you had boy bands, pop singers, hell rock was still popping.

you can even argue that nelly was bigger in 2000. although em outsold him eventually.

In 2000....Eminem sold over 1.5 mil in the 1st week with the MMLP. Em was inarugably the most popular rapper on earth then

they both went diamond that year. and Em did outsell by a million i think, been long time.
but what i am saying is em was not pop his songs unlike nelly. nelly was every where in the clubs etc. hell Em whole thing was going at these pop singers and he did succeed by ending their careers.

i said that to say a lot of people were selling around that time. so it is not crazy that one can do crazy numbers and still chart at a certain spot.

Im sure its multi platinum in several countries. But that has nothing to do with it being 4x platinum in the US. Every countries has their own plaques

It's even more common now with streaming, some songs are just a slow burn. Usually because they organically go viral on tiktok much later. They get picked up by smaller radio formats(adult R&B) which usually takes longer and have little effect on billboard but drive sales/streaming

That sh1t went diamond on MTV.

Back then that was just as good as the Billboard.

Because most people remember the song for the video, it wasn’t a song people were playing every 20 minutes on the radio in a playlist mix. It’s a depressing song that didn’t fit the tempo of anything that was popular back then in rap or pop.

its fitting that eminem would create the word stan because he has more stans than anyone

eminem literally can't be beat in a battle .. he can lose but essentially he will still win... because he has gen-x stans, millennial stans, and gen-z stans.. prob even has baby boomer stans

mgk annihilated eminem and everyone acted like it didn't happen because they stan em so hard

and don't get me wrong i like eminem but he has an impenetrable wall of stans who will support him no matter what.. yall thought the barbs and the bey-hive were something

eminem has a fleet of stans of all ages and races
