4 songs in and that's the first thing I noticed.

Snoop don't sound old.

Dre on the other hand sounds like sh1t. He has for a while low-key.

At this point I’d prefer a whole Snoop album with Battlecat. Album is cool. I have to spin it again later

Dre has gone through trademark sonic eras, usually marked by who he's working with at the time.

When he was working with Daz (91-95), it was heavy G-funk, with rolling basslines, whining synths, and funk samples.

When he was working with Bud'da and Glove (96-98), it's was all keyboards and heavy synths.

When he was working with Mel-Man and Scott Storch (99-03), it was minimalistic, smoky g-funk driven by keys and guitar licks.

When he was working with Elizondo and Batson (04-09), it was heavy pianos and loud snares.

Since he's teamed with The ICU (Parker, Lawrence, Dem Jointz, Focus, Fredwreck, Blu2th Griggs), it's maximalist live instrumentation. We've heard this trademark now since the "Compton" record, through the Anderson Paak and Marsha Ambrosius records, and now this. It's not my favorite Dre sound, but it's clear that it's the zone he's in now and it still sounds immaculate.

Yep when I read your part about Compton, “Darkside/Gone” played in my head right away.

Not a fan of the album. I like 2/3 songs and they all happened to be the songs they previewed.

The songs I was looking forward to hearing, like gunz and smoke, didn't meet my expectations. I was looking for a dark sinister beat and it just didn't hit.

The melodies/choruses are horrible and gone are these days of pianos/synths/"lost one" type drum beats

I said in an earlier thread I was disappointed that the OG west coast was not represented on this album. Daz/Kurupt, Rage, a nate dogg hook from the vaults, maybe even a newer generation of west coast artists that came later like Game, Kendrick etc....this album had a bunch of features with people we have never heard of. I get it, you want to introduce the world to new talent, but your core audience is the NWA, Chronic, Doggystyle era fans and I feel like Dre made no attempt to satisfy our ears and feed into the nostalgia.

I won't be revisiting this album anymore. I added the songs I like to my main playlist and left it at that.

Dre produced the sh1t out of this album and snoop's flow was on point, he blended very well with these beats and sounded comfortable.

I think there are several big potential singles on here if he wants them. Obviously the mary Jane and track with sting. The hardest rack on this album tho is fire. That sh1t is a monster and cocoa bodied that sh1t. Need that remix with jr gong

don't think the album is bad just isn't for out age range this is for people who are in Snoop & Dre's age range. These dudes are grandfathers our expectations don't match reality with this album.

I thought the album sounded super commercial but I was digging it. Only thing is that it doesn't have any real standout songs. Would give it a 3/5

After listening a few times, I actually appreciate that Dre and Snoop didn't just rest on their laurels and feed us fifteen tracks of nostalgia bait.

They sonically tried something new, and while I don't know if it's the best fit for Snoop (who sounded better than he has in years), I think it should be applauded.

This is a good, if not great, album, and easily one of Snoop's best solos since "Doggystyle."

It’s an ok album after first listen

As far as old n1ggas go, LL has the best album this year followed by common and Pete rock

This is well below those but still solid

Dre had a stroke or some sh1t, easy playa, that sh1t takes a toll on the healthiest of people pre-incident...

Snoop spitting the most energetic and lyrical I've ever heard em from the 3 or so songs I've heard... Dre sounds like vintage Dre, minus whatever residual damage his health scare caused...

sh1t was surprisingly needed

It sounds good and safe, but a little over produced for samples that have been flipped before so many times.
