I do think there’s the threat later rounds to press and possibly finish him.

But Khamzat had a lot of respect for DDP.

Normally he goes in there and tries to finish his opponents. Besides Burns, Usman and DDP, all of his fights ended in the first or second.

I think he can get some of the other challengers out of there. DDP is so scrappy that he didn’t want to compromise himself like he was in the fifth.
Id favor Chimaev too but who else is there in the division other than Usman, RDR, and Fluffy who could even wrestle against him. Izzu, Strickland getting taken down and submitted easy

islam would have to fight the winner, he's not a face of the promotion. paddy has star power and ilia can be a superstar if he beats someone like a paddy on a big stage.... that said, paddy has nowhere near earned the shot. if paddy doesn't make that fight happen, islam 100% deserves it.

Chimaev never really hurt him to get the choke , if he was able to hurt his ribs or land some elbows on his head he would of gotten that choke

Honestly the thing is even with a whole camp it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to bridge the gap. They are just too skilled

Tom is also a likable guy and a “regular” ie Anglo European so he has more appeal to Americans and UFC fans than a lot of people. Honestly I think Jones is going to wait until he sees a flaw he can exploit in Tom’s game and then unretire

185. They forced Khamzat to move up to 185 after the Diaz fiasco. They fought during Volk/Islam 2 for the #1 MW contender. The month after Strickland won the belt and the lane was wide open for challengers.

But if Khamzat wanted…I legit think he could become a three division champion especially with him weighing 2 pounds below 185. He’d just have to work with the same cardio coach and watch his weight and challenge winner of Islam/JDM. Or he could move up to 205 and go after that belt. Those guys are big though. 170 might be easier.
