If you're making 20k a month why would you tolerate living like that?

I've never lived in such fu#ked up circumstances. The worst I had were roaches the last time I lived in apartment and that was for a few months (the roaches left with Indian neighbors
emoji
). And I wasn't paying 3k, nor did I have a roomate.
I make nowhere no 20k a month and live in a great building. Mortgage+maintenance= a little over 1400 a month. Lots of people be desperate to live in a certain area that they’ll put up with whatever.

You also have to take in account that these white transplants are “slumming” bc they think it makes them cool. They think they’re part of some struggle bc they paying 3k to live in the sh1ttiest building on the block and displace the poorest people

Also most people in NYC don’t live like this. I grew up in crack era harlem and never had rats. Mice? Yes but rats? Hell no

Yea I do NOT understand why people live in NY on purpose.
The city depending on your personality and what you do is one of the best cities to live in just dont let housing r@pe you. So much to do here at any time of the day and the salaries are higher depending on the field. I know cus I work for national IT and the sh1t they make in say Richmond, VA is nothing compared to NYC. I make what managers in IT would make in 90% of the country.

I dont feel sorry for none of yall who stay in NY or LA you mf want the zip code so bad just to say you live in a certain place you if they r@pe yo a$s so the fu#k what right hey at least I live in NY, LA haha dumb a$s .. I live in cleveland just bought my second home for 3k a month on my mortgage I got a fu#king 3200 square foot home 4 bed 3 baths in the burbs while n1ggas complaining about rats I got a full basement that look like a extra apartment under my house .. in Texas you can get damn near a mansion for 200 300k
It aint the zipcode its so much to do. Purchasing a house on a 50k salary I will say is easier to do and to be honest after living in new york chicago and VA I'm just not moving to CLeveland idc how cheap property is thats not for me.

No disrespect but NY got way too many rats and roaches to pay anything that you can pay a mortgage in. Making 100k in NY isnt much when you have to have roommates to live in a decent building.

I just don't understand the city living. Maybe if you're in your early 20s or work in the finance market or artist. But raising a family f@getaboutit
Man yalll gotta stop letting these shock value articles tell you about a city you don't live in. My sister has a concierge mail room activity room rooftop all that sh1t and not paying close to 4700 with no roommate. We do have a lot of rats and roaches but that does not mean they are in every bldg. That bi#ch in OP is prolly dirt and from out of town and probably would've had rats an roaches in a small town lol. I live in a condo never seen a rat or roach and my sh1t has parking and the rooms are huge

If landlords cost go up why wouldn’t tenants

Tax goes up 20% vs the HUD 13% who makes up the difference

NY people are delusional 4700 a month is a really nice house somwhere else with a home theater and pool. They think they can make it living in NY. The city doesnt offer sh1t but overpriced rent and crime.
That is absolutely mental ! I live about 2h away from London, in one of the more popular cities and I pay £600 p/m. So what’s that?… like $700. That’s for a 3 bedroom detached, decent sized family home. Modern bathroom, doors, built in appliances etc.

I have a friend who lives in London though who pays more for 1 room though. Shared with 4 foreign bi#ches who constantly steal his eggs and toothpaste and in a crap hole area.

What’s the incentive?

Owners benefit from rising rents

Supply and demand

Higher return from the land. I can rent one house for $1000 or I can rent 5 apartments on the same lot for $800.

Allow building, like in Houston or Tokyo, and rents will remain modest. Discourage building, like in SF or NYC, rents increase despite what's being produced.

Bro I battle with this every day, Im this close to moving to Miami or DC because NYC rent is crazy, but I know I can get a 50-60k minimum IT job here in NYC. Competition is just crazy. Buying a house on 50K is incredible, salute. Might need some advice from you on that in the future.

NYC is definitely building and prices start at $3200 a month

Houston has the space to build and accommodate

Have you looked up the size of a typical Tokyo apartment

It's tiktok. Story probably fake.
I've seen plenty of real stories of landlords raising rents significantly in plenty of cities, NYC included. So, even if it is fake, it's happening to plenty of people in real life.

To each his own but I been all over and the city is the city it's the same sh1t to do in cleveland that it is in New York but ppl don't know how to separate reality from the internet I actually have plenty of homies from New York and Cali and other places who moved here when they decided to visit and not listen to the internet.. anything you mention as far as entertainment goes in the big city I can name something here to match it I make 6 figures my wife make 6 figures if we lived in NY that sh1t wouldn't do sh1t but here we considered well above middle class as far as tax brackets . I'm not here to convince you tho do ya thing

Okay I get that, but $4700/month for a place that’s mediocre, seems ridiculous unless you making like 10-20k/month. Even if I’m making 10k per month, I’d still be pissed paying something that high.

having to share an already small space, that has cockroaches and rats.

Ain’t no way I’d sign up for that.
I'm not defending it, she gets what she deserves renting that kinda sh1t. You can get a 2br doorman building with a gym in some neighborhoods for 2500 why pay all that
