Also Renegade was a pre-existing song that Jay hopped on.

The only reason we bring that song up is because of Nas’ line. Nobody, and I mean nobody, said Jay got washed by Eminem before then.

No, I have to admit to myself that André 3000 washed everyone including Jay on Jeezy’s “I Do”.

Man, ya just love to lie for no damn reason... Eminem washed Jay-Z on Renegade and its never been close, its been like that since we heard the song on the Blueprints release.. you n1ggas think that ya say this bullsh1t every 2 - 3 years and ya gonna re-write history...

Matter of fact, where the fu#k do you think Nas got the line from? Because it was COMMON KNOWLEDGE in the hiphop community....

What you can say is... recently people been say Jays verses werent garbage.

Jay's verse was solid on Monster, but Nicki's verse was is in the top 50 of all time. Maybe top 20. So people just don't talk about it much.

It's kinda like how It Was Written was a really good album, but it gets outshined by Illmatic since it's arguably the greatest rap album ever.

People was going crazy over that verse when that song dropped. To this day I still don't see it because outside of her flow and her delivery she really wasn't saying sh1t. It was like a female DMX almost, or Mystical even.

No...not really. Not even on Renegade.

With Renegade in mind- I dont think having an arguably better or more impactful verse automatically means you washed someone.

Nas was just flipping Jay’s line on Takeover… which made way more sense. Getting outrapped by Em is hardly embarrassing, especially when Jay wasn’t. Jay’s line was in support of his thesis Nas was washed up, which made more sense and was more embarrassing in terms of who Nas got killed by

Em was kind of washed by then. That was towards the tail end of when he was listenable.

Em definitely did not have the best verse on We All Die One Day.

I don’t know why Nas was so mad at that line.. probably because he knew it was true lol

He DID have the worst verse and Horse did have the best verse

Anyone who tells you Kendrick didn't kill him is lying
Kendrick isn’t that generational artist everybody is making him out to be. This is his peak prime n it’s coming n going back where he was at or higher. His entire run he was with the pack never heard Kendrick was the top rapper until last year

Yes he got Drake lol

I wouldn’t say washed but I’ve preferred other rappers verses on some songs. Some have already been mentioned but I preferred Rakim’s verse on Watcher 2 even though both absolutely killed it.

That was not the general consensus before the Nas line. You are lying. Show me one article or message board (it was message boards back then) dated before Ether where that was stated as even a single person’s option. One.

If you can’t than admit that you’re in denial and angry for no reason other that you hate JAY-Z because you’re a failure at life…

Yeah I think that is exactly what washing someone is to most people lol

But I think the whole idea is dumb and I blame Nas for introducing that dumb sh1t. Someone is always gonna have the better verse. Only for him to later get “washed” by Wayne

And Renegade is an Eminem song on a Jay album
I know, I just dont agree with that as a whole.

Like someone can shine. It doesnt mean they washed whoever is beside them unless the sh1t they spit was wack or subpar

Edit: to your point, I agree with you

I don’t think so. I think some rappers had a better verse, but I disagree with washed. Washed is like J Cole on Lil Yachty’s The Secret Recipe (but Yachty isn’t a lyricist).
emoji

I’m not saying someone got washed because their crowd scored 30 and the other person scored 40. Washed is like you had single digits and they scored 50+. The gap needs to be so crazy people forget about your verse/you being on the song. I’ve never seen/heard that happen with Jay.

fu#k it while I’m here:
- I don’t think Nicki had the best verse on Monster. I think people just liked her flow and the pocket she was in (see Renegade). Kanye is talking about the same thing she’s talking about, and articulates/delivers it better.
- Tay Roc beat Murda Mook.
- Calicoe beat Lux. Lux chocked, cut that winning in 1 round crap out. People only do that for Lux and Surf because they’re crowd favorites.

Jay had no fu#king business trying to hop on the Juvenile Ha remix. n1gga sounded like a fish outta water on that beat.

Rappers go into songs with Jay trying to outdo him but if you pay attention Jay never cares. Styles P on Reservoir Dogs being a great example. Jay’s laid back flow sounds better than anyone else on the track.

Watch The Throne is the only time you can hear him actively trying to keep up with Kanye.
