This is what I don't get about Drake.
He wants to have his cake and eat it too.
Theres kind of a formula to make a Grammy bait album. Most of the voters are rock fans. They like live instrumention, concept albums, etc
Thats why people like Fugees, Outkast, Kendrick Lamar, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, J. Cole, etc ALWAYS get nominated every time they drop. Whether warranted or not
Drake is somebody who wants grammys so bad but utterly refuses to make an album thats not polluted with cross over pop attempts.
He could EASILY, and I mean EASILY lock in with someone like Alchemist, Conductor Williams, Just Blaze, Dr. Dre, whoever, and put together an album that would SWEEP the hip hop categories
BUT he doesnt want to risk not getting the sales. You can't always have it both ways. He wants the critic adoration that killer Mike gets, but he wants it while pushing songs like Passion Fruit and Hotline Bling lol
