Obligatory “because they wasn’t playing Eminem in the streets like that” argument placeholder.

its fitting that eminem would create the word stan because he has more stans than anyone

eminem literally can't be beat in a battle .. he can lose but essentially he will still win... because he has gen-x stans, millennial stans, and gen-z stans.. prob even has baby boomer stans

mgk annihilated eminem and everyone acted like it didn't happen because they stan em so hard

and don't get me wrong i like eminem but he has an impenetrable wall of stans who will support him no matter what.. yall thought the barbs and the bey-hive were something

eminem has a fleet of stans of all ages and races
[see video]

That's because it didn't happen...I aint the biggest eminem fan but mgk bars like "his fu#kin beard is weird" ain't it bro

MGK didn't win. He did better than expected and he had a video so you can say it was more popular. But if you compare the quality of rapping Em did in Not Alike which was his first diss towards MGK, you can see that it outshines MGK telling Em that his beard was weird.

Streaming got it to 4x platinum.

I feel like streaming is the reason for at least 95% of individual song certifications nowadays. Only way you'd go platinum on a single back in the day is if the label decided to release it in stores individually for like 3-5 bucks but back then people just bought the album for the single. I feel like most singles didn't even get offered individually at retail so they couldn't even get a certification.

There's HUGE songs from the 90s or before that made certain albums go diamond but individually they only went like gold or 1x platinum until streaming came around and multiplied their certification.

Stan wasn't really a radio song. Especially back then. The dark content & the long format and didn't really match what was playing on radio at the time. Interscope also might not have really tried to push it at radio like that.

"Til I Collapse" didn't chart at all because it wasn't a single but thanks to streaming it's 8x platinum now.

It's crazy how Eminem fans made me hate Eminem they think nobody is better than Eminem even though Kanye's discography blows Em's out of the water....

How can an album go 18× Platinum but only debut at number 182 on the Billboard?

That came out before soundscan existed. Soundscan didn't exist until 1991. All record sales before that are heresay and the charts were extremely bias for similar reasons.

Uhh it's called paying for streams...

n1ggas whole careers be financed and facilitated thru stream farms....

All you gotta do is open ya eyes, you can likely tie together the bum a$s n1ggas using the artist as a drug front, lol!

How you think it's so easy for these RICOs, they know half these bum a$s n1ggas do to have the talent to be considered artists in reality

In 2000....Eminem sold over 1.5 mil in the 1st week with the MMLP. Em was inarugably the most popular rapper on earth then
By summer of 2000 he was the biggest solo artist probably.

By topping the charts in 12 other countries
The charts and plaques are only given within that country.

Can’t be number 1 in Austria and it counts towards platinum in the US.

The real answer is.

The song isn’t a commercial track it’s one of those songs that do well over time and therefor it’s certified X amount of times platinum. The hot 100 is for songs currently in rotation.

It’s different than sales etc

Lol if you think Interscope wasn't number fudging, y'all silly...

Them brown bags stopped a bit short, bit it got the 4X Plat status, but nah with Em and them, I think it was some other sh1t torching the statsheets at the time...

Plus Hiphop wasn't really Top 100 friendly at the time for him to be ushered any higher than I'd say to have any artist peaking at 40 without a nice compensation package...

Payola been existed way before rap

thats wild. you would think stan would easily have been top 5 on the charts
Because radio and media push the songs they want to be on top. Them charts don't even reflect reality.

They try to force songs on people. There are other examples of songs like this.

because people used to listen to albums/singles exclusively and hate the radio etc. most of the stuff got popular through MTV as well, not the radio. it was all about Video's in the 80's on up.

it really makes perfect sense for older albums to not chart that well but sell a ton.

The song is featuring Dido, a very popular UK singer at the time. That's why it did very well over there.
