To be fair....... thanks to our Appendix...... we can eat any plant / herb that isn't poisonous but we wouldn't gain any nutritional benefits to buy time until we would find some "real" plants.

a zebra carcass is 22,000 calories of leftover food. so we can follow lions around and wait for them and have enough to feed a family. this is how our brains developed. since meat provides all base nutrition all development was sent to the brain. so once we learned to preserve meat and take a whole kills, humans developed rapidly. most people don't know that 1 deer can feed a human for a year.
if you can get one kills, you're good for the year and can focus on a lot of other things.
