RJ is a top 3 player from his draft class. All in all, I'm not mad at the pick. Obi and Kevin Knox are really the only wasted draft picks in recent years.

Everyone has a role to play on team when they're drafted. Skillset and role on team are not always aligned. See Obi Toppin who you previously mentioned. His skillset and what Thibs wanted him to do to fit on the team were not aligned.

Being top 5 in games and minutes shows his durability.

Being the number 1 rebounder in a class with so many talented bigs speaks to him being able to affect other aspects of the game.

I'll give you garland, (even though scoring is the only real area I'd say he has over RJ, not including assists since garland is a point. )

But Rui? No. Herro is a better shooter but can't stay healthy and doesn't impact other areas of the game.

RJ may not be an all star (only three from this class have been) but he's overall proven to be one of the best players from his draft. If teams could redraft that class he'd still be a lottery pick.

How many 6'6 g/f who play at least 70 games a season who have improved their game each year are there in the league?
