Agents are in the same category as lawyers. You can try to do it yourself, but the results could easily be disasterous. It could end up working out, but that isn't the norm.

Not everyone is Lamar and LeBron. If by the market dictates you mean the very best players in the sport then sure. But these agents have a number of players all in different circumstances.
