I’m not offended tbh, you’re pretty respectful. I think it’s more religion and the opportunity to even come to America is viewed as “success” because things are so bad back in Haiti so they want you to go to school, work an honest job, don’t do drugs and go to church. Pretty much want you to lay low and don’t want you associated with anything that would make you a rebel. Typically for women, the goal is to go into the medical field usually a nurse. For men, it’s usually some handy work. So I agree, most of these people aren’t becoming these highly skilled workers and it’s more of just staying in your lane and earning an honest living no matter what it is because it’s better than back home
Makes hella sense, didn’t really consider religion or the immigrant aspect today.

Appreciate you breaking it down G.

I feel them ...

I have a conservative carribean mother

And they were very concerned about my appearance I'm regards to securing a career

So I never got braids..plats...or tattoos

Hell they didn't even like me listening to rap music lol

It all makes sense now
Agree it probably didn't hurt you, but in hindsight did it really cost you anything by if you would have had them?

I’m Haitian as well and most of what y’all said is spot on. It’s fu#ked up. I even had to cut my own fam off damn near completely because I personally think they are fu#ked up people. My dad and grandpa (rip) always be like do not stay around black people at all whatsoever, they are bums, you wanna be a bum in the street selling drugs stealing cars?? Ok then don’t hang out with them they no good. Go hang with white people you’ll do great in life. Couldn’t get tats,if you got piercings and long hair they say that’s gay don’t do that. So much bullsh1t. On top of that, my dad is a smart man just stubborn, but my mom stupid af and only thinks about herself. When I turned thirty I was mad at them. My dad took the liberty in sitting me down and telling me my mom ain’t and never was sh1t. I looked at him and went why tf did you knock her up then. Shut him up real quick we’ve never talked about that since. Dummy sh1t. Thanks for everything fam but I’m old enough to not rock with y’all no more. The sad part is after all the bullsh1t I’ve surpassed them all and live like a king now.

Here’s the part that’s mind boggling. That in 2022 there is still Haitian parents that exist like this.

Man my brother's baby mother is Haitian and she told its two kinds of Haitians: the ones that move to NY and the ones in Miami, she said the ones in NY were more conservative, by eule contrary to the Zoes in Miami.

Now I have a lot of respect for Haiti and its revolutionary history buy when I see behavior indicative of a sort if Stockholm syndrome from them all that respect is nearly evaporated especially knowing the disdain they have for our ppl over and idk if they're ignorant of our plight which I doubt but that sh1t always rubs me the wrong way.

He'd lose it. Caribbean parents don't support the gay stuff.
Yeah but many tend support alotta c00n stuff. Skin bleaching is very popular in the Caribbean.

Also, relaxed hair isn't gay.

These people are sick in the head. They really think that dreads and braids don’t exist in other countries lmao. It’s insane

It is crazy. My wife's people are from Mississippi and Louisiana and one of her Uncles put out her cousins years ago for coming home with locs. His words per my wife, "he doesn't want no Jamaicans in his house." It's across the board.

Most don't support skin bleaching. I've seen and heard many get insulted for bleaching.

We shared the exact same experience- hence my earlier post. I always tell people, I'm surprised I survived my childhood, it was that bad. Every Haitian I have met, has had the same childhood. I believe physical and mental abuse is a requirement- they dole it out to all their children.

Good to hear your doing well.
