Rountree would’ve won if it weren’t for those cuts on his face. Perrera has a lot of obvious holes in his game — e.g. overzealous in exchanges, lets his guard down entirely when he goes for the kill, doesn’t operate as effectively fighting a
southpaw

But Perrera really has a presence about him that I know fighters feel and it makes them fight extremely cautiously.

Rountree’s a true threat in the division and lest we forget that Rountree was actually up 2-1 on the scorecards before he got finished.

Rountree had the right idea in looking for counters whenever Perrera would throw a calf kick or was feinting a high kick.

In the beginning of the 3rd round — maybe first 2 minutes — Perrerra actually seemed to be a bit clueless as to what to do to take Rountree out.

But then Rountree started to gas from relying on counter blitzes and the rest was downhill after that.

For the record, I thought this was going to be over in the first 3 minutes of round 1 with Rountree taking a “let’s get this over with” and charge blindly into a firefight with Perrerra until he got left hooked.

But nawe; dawg was really in it for the long haul and dropped Perrera twice and had him hurt a lot during the fight.

I know people are just gonna glaze Perrerra but I think people really need to rewatch the fight and see how well Rountree was doing and had Perrerra perplexed for just a brief moment.
I agree with your assessment wholeheartedly

Yea I agree. Whether it was patience or confusing, a few times Poatan looked stalled
It's a 5 round fight and Roundtree was gassed way to early in the fight. He hit Poatan with his best shots and wasn't able to capitalize. He was looking for the 1 hit and got out skilled with all stand up jabs and once he got put in the muay thai clinch it was over that's how Rountree got knocked out a few years ago.

Smh These pundits just be talking anti wrestling is not new it's not some evolution. Fighters been had similar styles. Aldo on the card career is a prime example.

It ain't stalling if you figuring a fighter out. 2mins out of a 25min fight ain't long time.

End of the day Rountree got belt to put to a$s *pause* and was a great fight

I think that's where Alex would be very vulnerable

The top of the top HWs are legit NFL defensive ends from a size standpoint and many of them have some speed agility athleticism that could match up against Poatan's striking arsenal

And once he gets sent to the ground it would be a different ballgame

If Alex is smart he'll stay @ LHW he'd have to get waaaay bigger/embark on some extensive wrestling training for some years before even seriously considering challenging for the title at HW
Anybody who thinks Pereira beats a dam goof heavyweight is a dam idiot

Rountree did well and showed amazing heart and some technique. His corner needs to know their fighter better than fans do. They should
Know that 3rd round was gonna be his last hurrah. Those calf kicks add up and take away movement. Coupled with stamina depletion. He was doomed. Plus he was fighting a damn Moai

I agree Alex has many holes in his game, but the only reason Khalil had some early success is that he blitzed Alex with everything he had, problem with that gameplan is that you better get him out in the earlier rounds or you're done, he gassed himself to have a bit of success and then proceeded to get dog walked. It's silly to claim that he was gonna win that if it wasnt for cuts, he got those cuts cause he knew he was never gonna win a decision and went all out, failed to get a finish, gassed, and got slaughtered.

Roundtree only a 3 round fighter. He had no experience in 5, then to fight in elevation. Salute to the guy. His stock only rises after this

Were you not entertained? Khalil likely stays around and has another shot at the belt maybe? Alex vs Ankalaev if he gets past Rakic. Great time to be Alex. Not saying his wrestling is weak or anything but he doesn’t have DC or Bones to have to test him. sh1t book Alex vs Aspinall at HW who isn’t watching that.

Crazy sh1t, dude went ultra instinct and chewed up his face.

Alex vs Aspinall in July is the greatest fight possible.

2 monsters trying to kill each other, winner is the baddest man on the planet.

Is Asspinall brave enough (stupid enough) to try and stand with Poatan?

Aspinal is storchin Perrera, man.

In HW, Alex wont have the size advantage that he does at light heavyweight/middleweight.

He’d just be a good sized HW.

But Jesus Christ I dont get how Alex ever hit middleweight. It’s crazy how he easily loses/gains weight the way he does.

Ya be thinking the bow and arrow and yell at the beginning during the walk out is all show.

Alex is a hunter. Props for having three title defenses and beating 3/4 of the last LHW champs. I think winner of Rakic/Magomed will be his toughest test (referring more to Magomed).

[see video]

I think Jon and Aspinall are bad matchups due to size and wrestling.
