this is what i said she should do because its just too hard to stay hot in music, especially for a female rapper. use that spark to pivot into something else.
She was never hot in music.

First off, watch ya mouth; it's easy to disrespectful when you are protected by the internet.

Second, you missed the whole point of up-and-coming actor/actress... nobody is going to see this movie because Ice Spice is in it.She isn't the draw; Denzel, Jeffrey Wright, and ASAP Rocky are the ones being marketed to the public for this movie. Her role is probably largely insignificant in terms of who could have played it.

Third, you speak like you know something when in actuality you really don't. The publishing company got her access to this role. the budget for this movie was not that substantial, so you dont know what the budget was to have her cast vs somebody else ile you're t talking numbers

next time you want attention and just to hate, just to hate, go find another victim with the same mentality as you, because Im not the one, friend.

take care and go in peace

Just the fact that they made Denzel share the scene with her tells me all I need to know about the movie without even seeing it.

Its absolute trash.

Denzel is one of my favorite actors, but it looks like he did the movie only for a paycheck
favors for a close friend

Denzel has worked with Spike numerous times out of friendship and respect, regardless of budgets. Remember Dezel said he was close to retirement and only had a few more people and movies he wanted to work with and do. This movie sounds like he made an exception for a close friend.

Denzel Washington clears up what he meant after saying: ‘I’m going to retire’

“I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film,” said Washington. “After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m going to do the film Othello. After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”

He attempted to make a movie outside of his typical style

With Miracle at St. Anna and Inside Man, both movies have mixed receptions. I think at that point Hollywood started to cool off on him a bit

He is respected in the industry, even if he seems a bit one-dimensional in his approach to products.

Spike has given us classics in the Black community, and that was always his first love. As long as he has the support of Black audiences, he will always be good. Moves like this is to keep younger eyes aware of his works. The young generation is not seeking out movies like Mo' Better Blues, Do the Right Thing, and Jungle Fever. Those were period pieces that encapsulated the feel of 90s New York to a high degree with flair and style.

Spike's works won't be replicated for better or worse.
You trippin. Inside Man is one of his best movies and the reception was great.

And Spike has always been a mixed bag beyond the early 90s.

Good for her. It's a good look to have a speaking role next to denzel and she pops on screen. Hope she finds her place.

I'd bet nobody in that movie is making 300k. Probably not even Denzel unless he's getting some back end money somehow.

It did well at the box office and was reviewed well when it was released.

But in retrospect most people don't talk about that film like they do his older works that were more polarizing. A lot of folks to this day wouldn't even know Spike did Inside Man if you asked them.

It was a safe movie that showed he could helm a Black movie (1 leading Black actor, 1 supporting Black actor) that didn't feel like a Black film. That's part of why the movie did as well overseas as it did.

Typically, when a director does a movie on a 40 million budget, it grosses $186,003,591 worldwide. This includes $88,513,495 domestically and $97,490,096 internationally. They are given another shot to helm a large production in order to keep the momentum rolling for the money (AKA Ryan Coogler) . That didn't happen like that for Spike; he went back to smaller projects, probably because that is more where his passion lies, without all the studio interference.

Denzel the GOAT BUT he has alot of wack movies
hate to say it,

But you take what Hollywood gives you sometimes...

A lot of other Black actors would have given their left arm to be where he is right now with as many big-budget movies as he has been able to be the leading man in, not the supporting actor, but the leading man....

In retrospect, do we wish he would have done more with less? Sure.....

But those same movies kept him in front of audiences and kept the checks coming in.

One of his worse movies was Virtuosity early on in his career, with a young Russell Crowe.

Denzel didn't have the equity to choose more "passion" or artistic avenues until later in his career.

Leo is the Hollywood golden boy, an actor who can choose his roles at a whim for his own purposes; not even Tom Cruise has had that much juice, part of why he keeps dropping MI movies into the sunset. While Leo keeps doing different movies with different takes on different characters he can play. (Example: one thing after another dropping this month)

You mean it showed that he can make a quality movie that wasn't about hood sh1t or racial sh1t. Inside Man is very good filmmaking regardless of how safe it is. Being safe doesn't lower its quality. I don't think Spike Lee had anything to do with the writing of that film, so executives probably didn't give him as much credit for it as they should have, but it was definitely one of his best directing efforts.

In general Spike Lee has been a mediocre director that got famous by writing thought provoking sh1t, which is fine by me since I love thought provoking sh1t the most.

Unfortunately, he relied on racial sh1t to be thought provoking and once everyone became desensitized to the racial sh1t, he had no other way to capture their attention. It is what it is. Either way, I'm glad that he's still making films to help inspire more black people to make films. Da 5 Bloods is another one of his better movies as a whole that came out in recent times, but unfortunately it didn't get proper respect since it was Netflix movie or whatever streaming service.

Makes him look a lot younger, I was wondering if they used that CGI de-aging tech at first but nah, it's probably just the wig and makeup.

Clockers and Bamboozled had rappers in small roles in them in the ‘90s. This was a movie about the music industry.
