In his defense boxing is one of the most draining sports on the body. I used to be like "this guy got cardio issues" or "this guy gasses fast". But a round in boxing alone if the other guy is applying pressure or in your face is a feeling that's hard to explain. sh1t is a different type of cardio, you could run for 4-6 miles and be straight but once you get in the ring be tired after a couple of minutes
