I think the problem is that nobody is hiring externally. Any position posted is considered and locked up due to extensive talent planning. I think there should be a law that says you can’t post a job externally unless you have exhausted internal hiring pool. That would cut down on the wasted and misleading job applications out there.

I was taught to get out as soon as you got what you came for.

If it’s experience, a resumé boost, or you’re just coasting, invest time in looking for legitimate opportunities because I’ve seen nggas with so called job security get laid off.

This is where I’m currently at right now. Remote work even a hybrid situation would be ideal over coming to the office. I hate office environments with a passion now.

Yep. If you are older and have seen phases of the US economy go from good to bad, all those articles about a lot of millenials quitting jobs may have been exaggerated or maybe partially fluffed up to get more readers. Not everyone just quits on a dime.

Old head perspective

This is something that was told to me by my parents when I got my first job at 14 years old.

"Never leave a job until you have another one to go to."

emoji

We understood that phrase meant, you don't go anywhere until you're hired at the next gig. Not called backed, not interviewed, but hired.

emoji

I've seen cats leave a job just because they got an interview somewhere else. And while 90% of the time it worked out, it was still an unnecessary risk if the company decided to go with someone else.

emoji

I had a job that I hated with a passion, but I didn't leave that bi#ch until I could walk into another one with no break in pay.

Also wait to be fired and don't just leave. In most cases you can get unemployment if let go. Simply leaving will get you nothing.

Yes the job market fluctuates, but bx i urge you if you are job searching or trying to make a change, review your resume. Even if you updated it 2 mins ago, update it again. Even if your resume is airtight and "perfect" it never hurts to have a professional look over it. Its mostly about beating the applicant tracking system. Especially if you have the experience and credentials.

People been in your situation since late last year crying on IG and TikTok about the same sh1t.

It's almost like everyone's pockets got real tight as soon as Trump won.

im similar. my job still lets me work from home when i am not traveling. when i travel i get to do some hands on work that hopefully will shield me from AI for a bit. my job gives me a lot of free time to enjoy my hobbies and i still make a good money. i could probably go somewhere and earn a little more but at the expense of lots of free time. this job gives annual raises so i'm good right here.

There's no point in leaving a job before you potentially get laid off; at least you get severance for a bit to cushion the blow some

Yep!

I get new notifications every day for new openings in my field. The pay is great for travel positions and are starting at $1700-$2500 a week after taxes.

emoji

The issue is that I make that now if we're looking at the low end of $1700 weekly. With my experience I would easily be at the $2500 weekly pay range. But what comes into play is the fact that I'd actually have to bust my a$s at the new job.

emoji

My current gig is M-F, no weekends, holidays, or call and nobody can tell me how to do my job because I'm the only one that does it.

emoji

More money is always cool, but it may not be always worth it.

Wouldn’t say no point but I think I get what he saying. If you were gonna quit anyway just try to get laid off, you potentially get severance and can use unemployment while looking for new job

What's your job title if you don't mind me asking? I got a youngin I've been trying to help find employment who would love to be able to have a do nothing job. The boy has no interest in anything besides video games and computers. Tried to get him into some computer programming/coding type sh1t but even that was "too much work" for him.

sh1t aint like it used to be. A lot of cutbacks. Less pay, less benefits and less security. I've seen jobs that don't even offer medical insurance anymore. Combine that with competitive applicants. Youd be surprised at how many people are at a hectic job they hate because they really don't have a choice.

But if you do decide to leave for sure, DO NOT QUIT. Get the other job first. Make sure all paperwork is signed. Then resign from the other. I've seen sooo many people make this mistake. Quit their job with nothing lined up. Thinking theyre gonna bounce back quick. Those days are pretty much over. Unless you are in a high demand, specialty job with limited competition.
