i always had a slight annoyance with that pic because it doesn't include alaska which is a decent chunk of land of america and the biggest state. they fit in the other part of china into the continent but not alaska? obviously not the point of the pic tho, which is still hammered home on africa's size.

the real crazy revelation is that australia is almost as big as china and the u.s.

I recently learned that the globe model can’t depict the sizes of the land accurately. The lands closest to the equator look much smaller to make it fit the model properly.

On the globe model for instance Greenland looks huge but when out to scale within the continent of Africa you see it is actually very small in comparison.

The globe model stretches the land masses closest to the north and south poles to keep the model n “navigational” according to the info I learned.
