Usman's lineage originates in Africa. It is in his skin and soul. He may be an expat, but that doesn't make him any less African.

Plessis was born, raised, and is still there. It may not be in his skin and his experiences are vastly different than indigenous Africans, but you can't say he aint who he is.

I get them both. They both have valid points. But context matters.
all i know is BLACK africans born and raised in africa love and embrace usman, izzy, and ngannou as africans.

they were proud to see AFRICAN champions.

thats all i need to see.

this no-name whiteboy needs his jaw kicked off for trying to diminish their connection to the motherland. and so do the racist a$s ufc fans who agree with him and cant wait to attack black african fighters.

South African UFC Fighter Dricus Du Plessis , in a tone deaf way says that, HE WILL BE THE REAL African Champion, as he was born in african, lives in africa and trains in africa and will bring the belt to Africa for real

where as Usman/Izzy have their belts in USA/New Zleand
emoji

I get what he is trying to say, but he has to be a little tone deaf, especially considered his parents age were there during the whole situation in South Africa between the races

Usman responds

Du Plessis is not no African name, its French. Just looked it up. His last name lineage comes from colonizers from France. So he’s French-African

Being born somewhere doesn't make you from there

Even ppl in North Africa are still looked at as Arab or Berber ( Amazigh )

This mf is probably Dutch

that white man is not a real african them yts are colonizers who forced the natives into apartheid.

im sick of these stormfront clown keyboard warriors
Period point blank. His ethnicity is not of African origin. Usman's is. Every black American more African than that Caucasian. Simple as that.

You don't make any sense. We use the term Asian American regardless of how "far removed" someone is from Asia.

Looking from a distance, South Africa ain't even really trying to be a part of Africa.

Would be like a Brazilian saying they're the American champion. Every event I seen a South African they only mention South Africa, outside of this guy here. They fly their own flag and be in their own white section.

Yeah he a legit African
But he shouldn't discredit Usman / izzy cause their family had to leave Africa

And Francis living condition. Was horrible as to why he had to leave

Their "home" is still Africa
Africans don’t consider South Africa , true Africa because of its colonized history.
You go to any other Africa country and ask them about South Africans like him being true Africans they look at you crazy.

Yeah, but trying to take away with Izzy/Usman/Francis did for UFC and the impact they have (building facilities since day 1 all over their homeland), is foolish

What does he get from it?

Ofc people will take insult to it, especialyl REAL champs who put in work in the business

White South Africans are no different than the Arab North Africans... some MF's that came recently.. Technically they're africans, but not really.

Germans, Italians, and the Irish were absorbed into a larger white American identity in the 60's. Which is why you don't hear those terms anymore. Prior to the 50's many of these groups faced discrimination and were barely even considered white.
