That's why it's never a good idea to deify a politician/celebrity to the point where they become apart of ones own personal identity. Once that happens, we find ourselves in weird positions to where we're now defending/rationalizing things we once would've considered indefensible. I think for some of his supporters, their ego/personal identity is so heavily tied to him that if they concede any ground on this Epstein thing, it will hurt their sense of self.
