NBC loses French Open and gets the NBA
TNT gets Tennis and possibly retains some NBA rights

 https://variety.com/2024/ .. ts-1236028911/

Warner Bros. Discovery has a 10-year, $650 million deal in place to be the new home of the French Open in the United States beginning in 2025, executives briefed on the agreement told The Athletic.

The move comes as WBD, which is the home of TNT Sports, is in the midst of negotiations with the NBA as it tries to hang on to some rights to games. WBD Sports executives have said they would be pursuing outside rights regardless of whether they retain the NBA or not.

I doubt people will watch the show without the games. Especially that late at night.

Maybe they can do a late night talk show format and invite players and celebrities on. That might work.

Maybe there is an opportunity there. I think Kenny gonna be at the 30 yr mark soon, Ernie has been over 30, I doubt they want to go much further.

is the french open even an attractive property? Especially if it's not something that you are streaming during the day so that ppl can watch at work

Their trying but it's tough because Silver wants to move on. They may take them to court I think that's the play.

I would imagine. I’ll have to look at the viewership data but although it didn’t pull the viewers like a decade ago, it’s been growing the last couple years. It’s probably the third in viewership in the US partly due to AO start time.

That’s what I think as well but I don’t know how much they have to stand on u less they have a negotiation/match clause of some sort.

French Open deal is $65 Million/year

NBA deal is $2.5 Billion/year

$65 Million is pennies.
