This movie is absolutely not for everybody, and while it is flawed and way too long, I really enjoyed most all of it.
It's a movie about excess, so it makes sense that it's excessive and overly ambitious. The performances are all great, and the filmmaking is breathtaking. The second half of the film isn't as focused or entertaining as the first, but it sticks the landing with that completely bonkers sequence in the underground lair (yes, really). There are also sequences in this movie that rival some of the all-time greats in movie history: the failed rehearsal sequence is a masterpiece in and of itself, as is the filming of the battle and Robbie's first performance. If you took Boogie Nights, The Wolf Of Wall Street, and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, threw them in a blender, you'd have something resembling Babylon. |

We enjoyed it. But not as great as you are saying.
I fu*king LOVED the scene where the director is getting frustrated and yelling at everyone, including the sound and camera guy in the hotbox. I don't think I've laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. I dont know why it was just so fu*king funny. I felt the frustration. |
