Hov had the worst verse on the song .

I’m not really crazy about the song in 2021, but the song would’ve been much better if his verse wasn’t there. And this is coming from someone who has Hov in his top 5.

Hov one of my fav mcs but that Big L freestyle always comes to mind. Then again jay wasn't in his prime and was only getting better.
Jigga could have been in his prime MJ form and he still would have got murdered by L.

Lamont was just a problem for any rapper

yep, he dusted Jigga twice on this classic. To be fair, I dont think a person on the planet would have taken Big L on that track. Straight lyrical murder

But sometimes what’s understood doesn’t have to be explained. Emimem k*lled patiently waiting, and dead wrong
em k*lls everything. but they went toe to toe on renegade.

Do not step to me, I'm awkward, I box lefty
An orphan my pops left me
And often my momma wasn't home
Could not stress to me, I wasn't grown
'Specially on nights I brought somethin' home
To quiet the stomach rumblings
My demeanor, thirty years my senior
My childhood didn't mean much, only raisin' green up
Raisin' my fingers to critics
Raisin' my head to the sky, Big, I did it, multi before I die
No lie, just know I chose my own fate
I drove by the fork in the road and went straight

what are we really talking about?

Jay is known for his flow and riding the beat mixed with slick talk. Em's flow at the time was second to none and he was very lyrical, so it kind of overshadowed jay best attribute, which is his flow. Jays content was good and he rapped on the beat well, but I think Em had a better flow for that song and that makes sense because that was originally an Em beat. So a better way to phrase it would be, Em rode the beat better/had a better flow than jay on the song.
"Who's the king of these rude ludicrous lucrative lyrics?"

that boy's flow and wordplay was top form in that song... Not Hov, not anyone could've touch Em on that track.

I consider Big Pimpin a UGK song, jayz had to go and write a second verse after he heard their sh*t.

If nas never said that line then nobody would ever say it
Foh. I dont even like Em but his flow was like water on that sh*t. Nas didnt have to tell me sh*t. He just stated what was obvious to people with functioning ears.

People in here arguing about Renegade ignoring all of the other examples of Jay getting washed.

Then you have children who probably weren't born then trying to change the narrative, 'people only saying that because Nas said it' when the fact is Nas said it because that's what everyone was saying.
