I was pleasantly suprised by this album. It is much better that Kingdom Come. The album kind of has a old school feeling which i'm feeling alot. 4.5/5

Small, summarized review for people wondering what the album is like.

The tracks are in order of best to worst.

Fallin'

The best track on the album, Bilal comes correct on this. Definitely a great closer to the album, Jay's flow is impeccable - and may I say, its probably his best track since Beach Chair.

[9.5/10]

Say Hello

Catchy hook, Toomp always comes through with the production, it sounds epic. It's def. a highlight of the album to me..

[9/10]

I ain't an ordinary n*gga,
Look around, this ain't what ordinary get ya.
Extraordinary figures, I'm an extraordinary n*gga.

Success

Jay-Z and Nas back at it again, the beat isn't as grand or as good as Black Republican but Jay-Z's flow and delivery k!lls this (in a good way). Nas admittedly "loses" in this track, but his verse wasn't bad either. The organs on this track is MEAN.

[9/10]

I Know

Crazy, vintage, Neptunes beat. The hook is catchy, Jay-Z's personification of heroin is also witty and clever.

[9/10]

Roc Boys

You know the Roc is comin' through when the trumpets are this loud. The hook's well done, Jay's flow in the third verse is crazy.

[8.5/10]

No Hook

The best bar in the whole album is in this song. The beat is brooding, dark, and grimy. Jigga plays around with the delivery, his rhyme scheme is crazy.

[8.5/10]

But I do lift weight like I'm usin 'roids,
Rolls Royce, keep my movements smooth while maneuverin'
through all the manure and the sewers that I grew-up-in.

He k!lled that, he really did.

Ignorant Sh*t

Nice beat supplied here, it does enough for the track, its not over saturated and the sample does well. Jay's first and second verses are crazy, too bad Beanie didn't really spit much.

[8/10]

Party Life

Smooth track, I didn't like it at first but at the fifth-sixth listen I was convinced that this track was a well needed break from all the metaphors, wordplays and flow that cramped up the album.

[7.5/10]

Blue Magic

This track's got a raw feel to it, and Jay def. supplies enough raw lyricism for this track to carry through. It's a great Neptunes beat, the hook is also decent.

[7.5/10]

Sweet

This beat reminds me of Still Dreaming from Nas' Hip Hop is Dead. This track's good to chill out to. Nothing special though.

[7/10]

American Dreamin'

I didn't like this song at first, but the Marvin Gaye sample really enhances the song on your latter listens. Good chill out track. But again, nothing special which makes it only decent.

[7/10]

American Gangster

Sounds too much like Show Me What You Got, the beat is overproduced but apart from that its pretty nice. The only problem I got with this is that it seems so cluttered and busy that there's nothing to concentrate on..

[7/10]

Pray

Not a bad track by any means, but the hook could've been much, much better. Jay's story telling's on point though, I could really get into what he was saying. His flow and delivery paves the way for other songs in the album.

[7/10]

Hello Brooklyn 2.0

I wanna fast forward, skip, and delete this song. It's garbage, it feels garbage and listens like garbage. Lil Wayne is unbearable on this track, so unbearable that he k!lls the whole vibe of the album early on. The production is also pretty gay, I didn't like it.

[4/10]

OVERALL: 7.5-8/10

There ya go.

Opening Comments:
Wow 147 people said this album was a classic? Compared to The Blueprint or Reasonable Doubt, this is complete trash. But by itself it's a halfway decent album.

Strong Points:
- Lyrics are on point in most tracks
- Some good guest appearances
- Nas/Jay track is the standout

Weak Points:
- Most beats are trash (Hello Brooklyn 2.0, Blue Magic, American Gangster)
- Still biting lyrics, especially Biggie lines

Closing comments:
Lil' Wayne on a track called "Hello Brooklyn 2.0"? What the fu*k man, put Fab or Uncle Murda, hell, even get a recycled Biggie verse for a Brooklyn track. Other than that my only beef is that the single "Blue Magic" is complete garbage and that "Roc Boys (And the Winner Is...)" should have been the first single. Not many radio freindly tracks here, and I'm more into an underground style so I liked it.
