Jay-Z made around $100,000 per show during the Roc Tha Mic tour.

Graced with the requisite rapper scowl, the predictable rap sheet and an ear for a catchy hook, Jay-Z will repeat this ritual through the summer on a much larger, more lucrative scale. The club show is a warm-up for the 33-city Rock the Mic tour he is headlining with 50 Cent, the muscled, glowering rapper du jour. Touring with them are the hyperactive Busta Rhymes, the playful Missy Elliott and several other acts. Playing to crowds of 20,000, Jay-Z should net around $100,000 per performance, or more than $1,000 per minute onstage.

U2 has performed to crowds in excess of 500,000 people, so you can't compare them to any rapper.

I think Wayne charged 40k to perform here so I don't know how much it is for bigger cities if they go by attendence.

You gotta realize that alot of things are mis-reported too also. Typically, payment for shows/tours is based on the contractual setup, as well as the institution that the show is for.

I'm an alumni of Florida Atlantic University, and every Halloween the college does an event called 'Freaker's Ball'...usually having a 2-headliner show. While I was student there, I helped out with Student Government to finalize these deals. For Freaker's Ball 2005...we contracted Ludacris & Field Mob (at the time they weren't signed to DTP yet) for the show. At that present time, Ludacris was asking for $40,000/show...but because it was a college institution, we were able to negoiate $24,000 for the show. Last year's they had Chamillionaire there for $36,000. For Freaker's Ball 2007, the student board was trying to negoiate for a Nas & Kelis show. They were asking for $70,000, and last time I spoke to them, the Board got them down to about $54,000 for the show. (Problem, the college will only cover up to a budget of $48,000 for Freaker's Ball every year).

So, although you're gonna find articles and stuff...alot of them are going to be misquoted. You gonna have to ask some sources that have actually worked on the deals, because while people have 'asking' prices...they usually are always negoiated down.

Dang I bet you had a great time Field Mob is one of my favorite groups from the south. Not to mention you guys could have helped Field Mob get discovered by Ludacris lol.

I'm mainly basing the sales on tours. Thats a fixed number.

Do you know who they got for the show this year? And is it open to people outside of the school?

I don't know who they are working on this year..like I said, I know they were 'trying' to get a Nas/Kelis combo, but it sounded like that fell through. I can make some calls though if you want, to find out.

And YES, the Freaker's Ball is open to the public. Student tickets are half-priced, public tickets are full price. Even at that though, it's still pretty cheap.

Here's a rundown of the Freaker's Balls while I was a student there:
(2006) Chamillionaire
(2005) Big Boi & k!ller Mike
(2004) Ludacris & Field Mob
(2003) Black Eyed Peas
(2002) Paid In Full Tour [Cam'Ron, Dipset, CNN, MOP, & Naam Brigade]
(2001) Mos Def & Q-Tip

And mind you, the school's budget every year for this event is about $48,000, so don't trip and believe all those crazy numbers people are saying.

That source means nothing because the Roc Tha Mic tour was Jay-Z's own tour.

Those types of concerts fall into a different catagory than someone just being hired to do a concert appearance at a random place.

Thank you. I'll probably be able to hear who they get when it comes out. I've never heard of this before, but I've only been in Florida for like three years. I live about 30 minutes from the campus, so I'll definitely go this year. Those are some nice names up there.

Update: I talked to Slin-K (president of bsu @ FAU)...and he's saying, that he's not on the board for it, but at the council meetings that they are suggesting that they are trying to get Lil Wayne & Baby for Freaker's Ball 2007. As soon as someone scans a flyer and sends it to me, I'll let yall know if that's for sure who it is.

PS -- while searching for "FAU + Freaker's Ball 07" I found a miami artists' Myspace page who's named Casely, and his page is saying that he is opening up for Lil Wayne at FAU, Boca Raton, FL on Nov. 5th.
