goood point but how do u explain 21 and 22,23 and 24 yr olds dat feel this way ?
My theory is you're an absolute bufoon. Check the numbers and talent levels they are on a constant decline, considering ten years ago people were going 5x platinum. To make a thread like this you should have a sense of the history of hip-hop which you lack obviously.

hip hop ain't dead but its on its way to death because record companies want images and not rappers. and people listen to songs for the beats and producers instead of rappers and lyrics

I agree but only to a certain extent. You still had quality hip-hop records coming out. I remember one of the first albums I ever d/led was "Reflection Eternal". The dimise of rap began when "crunk" emerged.

The people i think it's the people because they don't go out and support real sh*t when it comes out. The rappers because they keep talking about the same thing over and over and over and over over and over again. The internet because people use to download it listen to it and then go buy it but now it's just download it and that's it. The Radio DJ'S because they taking money to play weak sh*t and they wonít push the real and one more thing the older rapper also because they won't co-sign n*ggas like back in the day.

crunk is an evolution of bass which is a evolution of party music which was a founding element in hiphop

n*ggas tryin to decifer and blame someone for the demise of a genre that is seeing more money than the founding members and groups ever thought of is the reason its *dying*

im tired of hearing that its dying its not like it will ever be phazed out when the sales might not be that much the money thats in it is still plentyful

I think we as people are greedy so we DL for free

but i support the artist that have a track record of good music

most of the stuff on the radio and videos you hear and see, they might be selling singles but their albums aren't selling at all

the problem though are the quality albums aren't selling either and who's to blame for that i'm not sure, probably the internet but i wouldn't even say that. Because with most of the artists, i found out through the internet and if i like them i'll buy their cd. So it does have a purpose, i would say mainly good artists aren't being promoted, nobody knows any info on them, etc so how can they get record sales

yeah i hear you on, i also find out everything from online, i don't listen to the radio and i def don't watch mtv or bet

but basically the masses won't hear the music like masta ace or one of my personal favorites cunninlynguists (love their albums). I'll play them for my friends and they'll like it, my sister even listens to them and she's in high school. So i think my main point was when people say hip hop is dead i think it's because they look at the tv and look at the radio and all they hear is souljah boy, or t-pain, flo-rida, etc. And they just write it off, me personally i don't like that saying cuz i still can find some good music to listen to but you'll never hear it on the radio or tv.

The cds sales market has definitely hurt hip-hop in a major way. I also think it is the way hip-hop is marketed, its no longer marketed just to the hip-hop fan but it is now marketed toward every consumer of music. This has brought a lot of fame and fortune for many rappers, which is obviously a positive. However, when hip-hop stopped being a small niche market that corporate America did not want to touch, to everybody listening to it, the overall quality of the music decreased. Thats not the say that their still isn't quality hip-hop but quality hip-hop no longer makes up a majority of the market. Back in the day if you didn't have a lot of mic presence and lyrical talent then you wouldn't get signed, because there wasn't a market for rappers who couldn't rap. Now there is a market where anyone can basically pick up a mic find a hot beat and get signed.

Its truly a double edged sword. I like seeing people like TI, 50, Lil Wayne, etc. make money off rap, even if they aren't the most skilled, because they are true rags to riches stereotypical American Dream achieved type people. And they achieved their dream through hip-hop, one of my favorite American art forms. However, I also miss the days of small market hip-hop especially when local artists dominated their local scenes.

But you can't have both, and for me thats okay, because I love hip-hop unconditionally, and if you don't support it now when its pure garbage you're never going to give it the chance to get better.
