TQ’s “Westside” - ghost-wrote by Ne-Yo

I can't believe that one, TQ released that song in '99. So that means Ne-Yo wrote that song when he was 15-16 years old, the man makes great music but I doubt he wrote that track when he was so young.

FuddtheMC....Ne-Yo's real name (Shaffer Smith) & registered publishing name [Zomba Music, Inc./Super Sayin Publishing], is on the filed copyright app., not TQ's (Terrance Quaites). Also, for the record, Neyo's birthday is October 18, 1982. According the copyright app, "Westside" was released in 1998, and was originally written in 1997 - making Neyo about 15 years old. Now, if his bio is correct, he was born to musician parents in Arkansas, and started writing lyrics at the early age of 9. His parents first starting sending songs Neyo wrote to Prince when he turned 12 years old. So other than the proof of the OBVIOUS name on the copyright, I have no problem seeing someone buying a song from him in 1998, at the age of 16 (not that young in the music world). Believe what you wanna believe though.

(filed copyright screenshot) See for yourself right here:

PS --- Alot of yall are PM'ing me asking where I get my research from. As I stated earlier above...I'm using a combination of:

1- When you get anything copyrighted - you are given an L.O.C. (library of congress) ID...and you can do copyright app. searched based off: song titles, author's real names, and registered publishing companies. (I have an LOC ID)
2- You can research publishing credits, for songs, through performing rights companies (ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC).
3- a simple search through all your cds album notes, 80% of the time, all the writers of a song are named in the publishing credits.

Some of you have a start of a good idea using ASCAP, ALLMUSIC, etc-etc - but realize that they are just "ok" sites to research copyright authors, because they aren't the most accurate because of inconsistencies. 1) sites like that list EVERY publishing owner name of everything 'involved' in the track including writers, producer(s), sampled song writers, and often even managers. 2) ASCAP 'alone' doesn't list writing credits of writers under another performing rights company (BMI, SESAC, etc) so often names are left off and replaced with the original artist or other writer names. 3) like Stormtropper and others have mentioned, often 'ghostwritten' tracks are sold, and the publishing is retained by the performing artist to keep the writing a 'secret'.

The most accurate way to research is using copyright file info, and the library of congress. Like I mentioned...if you are an artist already and own copyrights, you have an LOC ID...in which you can either call in, or log on into the copyright site, and research more advance info on copyrights. Full copyright credit info isn't free and isn't open to the public - BUT the Library Of Congress does have a less updated/less complete 'free' search option on their website () that you can use. It'll get you SOME research info, but it won't seperate writer tasks/specifics on a song. But it's a the best 'free' start.

PSS - the 'rumors' about people like Gillie Da Kid are waaaay over blown. Was a paid employee in Cash Money's writing department for 2 years - YES. Did he write next to and help Lil Wayne in writing sessions - SURE....did he directly ghost-write songs for Lil Wayne --- (I haven't fully spent tons of time researching him yet, but to my best knowledge so far --- he has 'co-writing' credits are like 1-2 tracks).

As you all wish though --- I'll research people like: Gillie, Tank, and other next.

Lastly, If anyone else have creditable/documented proof (not a homie in miami that's not telling you the complete truth, to bullsh*t you) then feel free to help me find expose more ghostwriting credits.

If anyone else wants to holla at me...discuss music...or just say whattup --- hit me up on AIM: doctorJ118

I think a lot of the BS in this post is coming from cats who claim they are in the music business not knowing the business. Case in point the comment that "Mase and Pharrell ghostwrote Give it to me for Jay-Z" No they didn't Pharrell will get a writers credit for doing half the work on the song(making the beat) and writing the hook. Other then that lets take a look at the writing credits for the song:

ANGELETTIE DERIC MICHEAL-D. Dot Producer in the hitmen
BETHA MASON-rapper/ghostwriter for Mr. Combs
COMBS SEAN PUFFY-we all know
GOLDSCHMIDT ASHA-not sure
JOHNSON JAMES A-not sure
SHAW TODD ANTHONY-Aka Too Short
WALLACE CHRISTOPHER-B.I.G.
Hugo Chad Edward-Neptunes
Williams Pharrell L-Neptunes
Carter Shawn C-Jay-Z

All from Bad Boy(other then the last 3) and or all wrote, produced, or performed the song in question or a song called "The world is filled" from a little known album called Life After death (Joke) This is all the result of Jay spitting.

When the remys in the system/ aint no telling will I fu*k'em will I diss'em/ thats what they be yellin /Im a pimp by blood not relation/ yall be chasing I replace them

By saying this line he is sampling from the written composition of the song discussed above so in fact he has to pay for the usage of the lyrics. So there you have it Mase wrote some sh*t for Diddy and he happened to be on a song with Biggie where Jay spit a part of B.I.G.s rhyme so thats why he is on the credit.

In no way shape or form did Mason write for Hova that sh*t just didn't even make since. Plus never believe what somebody else says about anything do your own research first.

Last but not least
at the idiots talking about @ cats picking and choosing what to believe. Its clear you will believe anything.
