Matt Barkley, Robert Woods, Devon Kennard and Co. return from Haiti, which was earlier than originally planned. The group was supposed to depart Monday but instead left last Friday because the NCAA ruled the trip was not a sufficient excuse to miss the start of summer school at USC, which begins today.

Someone might have to convince USC offensive coordinator and running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu that this isn’t a dream.

Two days after the Trojans received a verbal commitment from running back Ty Isaac (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), USC landed another tailback, as Justin Davis (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln) announced his commitment to the Trojans on Thursday.

"The combination of academics and athletics is unparalleled," Davis said. "I feel that nobody can compete with what USC has."

Davis is a four-star tailback and the No. 24 running back in the country. He became USC’s top in-state tailback target after he received a scholarship offer during the Trojans’ junior day in February. Davis took another unofficial visit to USC in early April and left with nothing but positive things to say about the Trojans. USC was in good position for a commitment after that, but had to overcome unofficial visits Davis took to Stanford, California and Washington.

In the end, the opportunity to play in the USC offense and become part of the Trojans tailback tradition proved too much for Davis to ignore. He is the seventh commitment for the Trojans and the third added to the offensive backfield, as he joins quarterback Max Browne (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline) and Isaac.

"We're already starting to feel like a family -- all the commits and people who are going to commit," Davis said. "It's going to be a great class that we're going to put together. It's going to set us up for success."

Davis chose USC over offers from California, Boise State, Florida State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, UCLA, Utah and Washington, among others. As a junior he rushed for 2,380 yards and 36 touchdowns.

• QB Max Browne (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline) Browne followed up on his MVP performance at the Elite 11 camp on Friday with another solid effort on Sunday at the NFTC. There is an awful lot to like about his game and he was easily the top quarterback prospect in attendance,
• RB Justin Davis (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln) Davis is a pure running back. Nice size and movement with some wiggle and wasn’t afraid to stick his nose in there during pass blocking drills.
• WR Trenton Irwin (Newhall, Calif./Hart) Irwin, a class of 2015 recruit, has been a mainstay on the spring camp circuit and anyone who watches him comes away impressed with his game. He doesn’t really stand out in any one area, he just does everything well with a good feel for the position.
• DL Elijah Qualls (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande) Qualls could fit the mold of a shorter, stocky lineman that USC has seen in recent years with guys like Mike Patterson, Sedrick Ellis and Jurrell Casey.
• LB Michael Hutchings (Concord, Calif./De La Salle) Hutchings has real good instincts for the game and one can tell he has a toughness which comes out on the field. He hasn’t been the fastest linebacker out there at either Nike Camp this spring but did enough on Sunday to earn an invite to The Opening.

RB Justin Davis
The recent USC commit has outstanding junior film, is impressive in track and has proven he can run away from defenders whenever he has the ball in his hands. What he showed on Sunday was his toughness, his competitiveness and his grit going up against some fierce linebackers during blocking drills. Davis did not shy away from contact and even went after some top prospects such as Michael Hutchings and others in drills.

QB Max Browne
What else is there to say about Browne? He's good. So talented that he's arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the last couple recruiting classes. What's also impressive about the USC commit is that he's constantly working to get better. The five-star doesn't need to be doing camps but he showed up at the Elite 11 on Friday, did well, then came back Sunday and impressed again. Browne has outstanding touch, a great feel for all the routes, can check down when needed and does the job so well it looks easy.

Thursday night sent Twitter ablaze, as two separate message board posts behind pay walls at Rivals and 24/7 had titles suggesting that a USC quarterback was departing Troy. After hours of speculation, 24/7 Sports’ Scott Schrader publicly mentioned on Twitter that the reported departing player was redshirt sophomore QB Jesse Scroggins. As of this time, it is not clear yet where he will transfer to, nor has the breaking story been confirmed by the university.
Scroggins, a highly-touted recruit out of Lakewood, California came into USC with an arsenal of awards in his pocket. He was an Under Armour All-American, Super Prep All-American, Prep Star All-American, he was named to the Prep Star Dream Team, Long Beach Press-Telegram Best in the West first team, Cal-Hi Sports All-State second team, All-CIF Pac-5 Division first team and All-Moore League MVP as a senior quarterback, to name a few.But since he joined the Trojan program in 2010, he has not lived up to expectations.
He redshirted during his freshman year, and after that he served as one of three quarterbacks vying for time behind Matt Barkley. Scroggins underwent thumb surgery during fall camp, which curtailed his progression and allowed then-incoming freshmen Max Wittek and Cody Kessler time to get up to speed. Once he recovered, he played in only one game during the 2011 season, taking the final snap in USC’s contest against Washington. He did not, however, throw a pass.
To make matters worse for Scroggins, he did not participate in spring ball, and coach Lane Kiffin said that it was so Scroggins could focus on and improve his grades.
Recently grades were posted at USC, and it is being reported that Scroggins would have been ruled academically ineligible. While this does not come as a huge surprise, it is really unfortunate for USC and for Scroggins because he had a cannon. His arm strength was unparalleled by the other back up QBs.
On the bright side, with Scroggins leaving the program this does free up a scholarship for USC, and we all know scholarships are like unicorns around USC these days. An extra scholarship would definitely help USC in this next recruiting cycle as the Trojans search to field a new roster of talent.

CHICAGO – Snoop Dogg’s passion for USC football is undeniable, but who knew his fandom went as far following the Trojans’ recruiting?

[+] Enlarge

Scott Powers/ESPNChicago.com
USC-bound RB Ty Isaac has some famous fans awaiting his arrival.
After Snoop Dogg threw out a first pitch for the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Park on Thursday, he didn’t blink when he was asked about recent USC commitment Ty Isaac, a junior running back at Chicago-suburban Joliet Catholic Academy.

“I heard about him,” Snoop Dogg said. “Isaac. That’s a great pick up for SC. It’s tailback university. I heard he’s a great running back. That’s a great fit for him, you know what I’m saying. Coming into that tradition, take him to the next level really fast.”

Isaac was surprised to hear Snoop Dogg knew his name.

“That’s tight him knowing who I am,” Isaac said by phone.

Isaac, who is 6-2 and 215 pounds, recently chose the Trojans over Michigan and Auburn. He was the 2011 ESPNChicago.com Offensive Player of the Year and is ranked No. 68 in the ESPNU 150.
Isaac rushed for 2,629 yards and 41 touchdowns on 203 carries and caught 16 passes for 369 yards and six touchdowns during his junior season. He rushed for a state-record 515 yards and six touchdowns in a 70-45 loss to Montini in the Class 5A state championship.
