teams that could take him include, Utah, Pistons (especially since they just got rid of Ben Gordon), Hornets (depending more if they go after Austin Rivers, if he still there at 10) and the Raptors but i got a feeling Raptors take English

and Kostos is basically one of those players that's not GREAT at one thing but does it all, give him some experience and he'll be a nice role player. more of a smart player over athletic and worse case scenario, you can leave him in Europe for like a year or 2

Machado is another PG i would def. love if we get another 2nd rounder. he's more of the pure PG over Odom with Lin and possibly over vet PG we might sign, Odom sticks out more since he's more versatile. Tyshawn Taylor is another name i keep hearing that I wouldn't mind but i SERIOUSLY doubt he makes it past the Pistons in the second round.
So what u saying is we drafted another landry fields type player? and y not draft a player who may be able to help us next year?

that's why you have free agency, immediate help is to go after established veteran guys like Andre Miller, Ray Allen, Randy Foye....

just cause you draft a guy, doesn't mean he's gonna be a key player right away anyway. for every Landry and Shumpert, there's a Rautins and Jerome Jordan. let the dude develop overseas and bring him over next season and its a win win since the guy that a majority of the people wanted is still available to bring in since he went undrafted

The Knicks passed on local point guard Scott Machado and a tough combo guard in Darius Johnson-Odom, which has some fans curious. Machado is undersized and, it should be noted, went undrafted. But that shouldn't stop him from getting a shot at the NBA. He can be signed to the Summer League team if there is mutual interest. DJO also has some size issues as he is 6-2 but is really a wing player and not at all a point guard. Tough kid and I'd love to unleash him and Iman Shumpert on an opposing backcourt, but the idea isn't to draft someone you may have to cut. Draft an a.sset. Thus Papanikolaou.

just another reason why drafting dude was a good move, probably would have to waste the pick on a guy you'd have to cut since the roster isnt set

"While Lin and Fields appear to be givens to be signed, Smith and Novak are not. Smith did not pick up his option for next season but the Knicks still have the ability to re-sign him for almost $400K more than if he opted-in. As such, Smith has a $2.8M cap hold and, unless he gets blown away with an offer from another team, seems likely to re-sign."

"As NBA free agency opens tonight (midnight), #Knicks will make heavy overtures to free agent targets such as Steve Nash and Jason Kidd, but also focus in-house with free agents Jeremy Lin, Steve Novak, J.R. Smith and Landry Fields, but don't expect any immediate action. This is a new climate with a new CBA, so its worth seeing what the market sets for each player. Contracts can't be signed until July 11, so the next 10 days will be a nerve-wracking whirlwind. "

according to his agent, Kostas WILL be playing for NY next season

and Grunwald said he's going to wait on Lin to give him max-early bird (4 years, about 24 mill), saying he's going to let the market set the price first

"Mark Bartelstein, Novak’s agent, was delighted Stern dropped appeal on Bird-rights. But Bartelstein still won't commit to #Knicks yet. Agent realizes Novak has to establish market before Grunwald bites. But Novak can now re-sign for Bird exception. Before, had no way to re-sign Novak. Perhaps hometown Bucks gets involved. “This brings more options for Steve and it helps him and helps the Knicks,’’ he said. “He had the time of his life last year and the Knicks & fans were great to him.’’ "

...so Kostas is coming over?? I hope so... this def helps Amare & Tyson in the middle, more rebounds and paint clogging on D.

And I'm really looking forward to free agency... Knicks are adopting a Yankees style of thought (win now)... there's plenty of vet guards and plenty of serviceable forwards.. we just need ppl to sign for the low.

yeah, Kostas is coming over next season.....didn't hear this next point from anyone but maybe he can come over during the 2nd half of the season, depending when the season over there finishes

two quick things before i call it a night....NYK has already contacted Nash and will probably meet later today

and the Knicks have an interesting loophole that they can and SHOULD use so they can acquire a legit piece without giving up any of the MLE money. Hahn mentioned this and I'm all for it. he brought up how the Knicks can trade in a package, Phoney Thugless, Daz and Jerome Jordan (who combined make about 3-4 million dollars this upcoming season). the Knicks could trade all three players to one team AND also throw in 3 million dollars. now the question here is why would any team give up a quality player for these three jackasses. the method behind this madness is, JJ and Daz are non-guaranteed contracts, so whoever takes this deal can waive these guys and it won't cost them a cent. with the 3 million dollars we send over in this scenario, we pretty much paid for Thugless' remaining year and this also gives the receiving team about a million dollars remained...this is the scenario he mentioned for Nash, that would give him a bit more money than what the MLE would allow and it would def. help us bring in more players to make us an even better contender this upcoming season

The Knicks have had exploratory talks with Phoenix about a sign-and-trade for Steve Nash, according to an NBA source. If the Suns take back a couple of Knicks pawns, it would allow Nash to make more than the $3.09 mid-level exception the Knicks have now.

Knicks brass was expected to meet with Nash today along with his agent Bill Duffy to discuss scenarios in which he can make more than $5M. Nash met with Toronto brass in New York this morning and the Raptors reportedly will offer him a deal worth $10M per year. The Knicks realize their mid-level exception won't be enough for Nash as they try to sell him on the Knicks' title-contending status.

The Knicks have free agents that the Suns could want in a deal but they probably could sign them outright without needing a sign-and-trade, such as Jared Jeffries and Steve Novak.

That’s why it is possible the Knicks would have to include one of their signed players. The Suns would probably want Iman Shumpert. Ater a solid rookie season, he is rehabbing from a torn ACL and isn’t back until January at the earliest.

The Knicks could also look into a sign-and-trade for Raymond Felton with Portland.

What is the market value for point guard Jeremy Lin? Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald can’t wait to find out now that Lin officially has his early Bird rights after the NBA dropped its appeal last night.

According to people familiar with the Knicks’ strategy, Grunwald will be patient in the Lin negotiations and allow the market to set Lin’s price tag. Because Grunwald can match any offer, he can sit back and wait.

Lin becomes a free agent tomorrow at 12:01 a.m. and Grunwald can offer him a maximum four-year deal starting at $5.5 million with 7 percent raises — a package worth $24.5 million.

Don’t expect it. Grunwald will see if Lin gets an offer in that neighborhood as the first full-fledged, free-agent period since the lockout plays itself out.

“This new circumstance of the new collective bargaining agreement,I’m not sure how teams are going to operate, how agents are going to operate,’’ Grunwald said. “Are people going to wait and see? I’m not certain how it will play out.’’

With the Knicks failing to land a piece for next season in this week’s draft, Grunwald will make his mark in free agency and it starts with the plan to re-sign his four big free agents — Lin, Landry Fields, Steve Novak and J.R. Smith.

Now that the Bird rights situation is resolved, Grunwald should accomplish his goal. He also will have a mid-level exception to wield, though he said it “likely’’ will be the taxpayers’ $3 million exception and not the $5 million for non-taxpayers. That diminishes any realistic chance of adding Steve Nash or even shooting guard O.J. Mayo.

“We want to keep both [Lin and Novak] and keep Landry and J.R.,’’ Grunwald said. “Those are four free-agents we want to keep“They’re all valuable players. We’re going to try to keep all four of them. “We have some [recruiting] plans. We’ve been in contact with our own free agents. They’ve expressed their desire to come back. They know we love them and want them. We’ll do the negotiating and hopefully it all works out’’

The Knicks only can offer Smith a 20 percent raise, to $2.85 million. Smith wants to re-sign a one-year deal and be in position to have his full Bird rights next summer. Unless another team wows him with a long-term package well in excess of $3 million annually, Smith is likely to re-sign.

Novak, their 3-point ace, could command at least $3 million per season on the open market. Fields, after a modest second year in which he averaged 8.8 points, could command in the $2 million to $3 million range.

Lin is the biggest mystery, which is why he added powerful agent Jim Tanner.. His marketing appeal is unquestioned, but he’s only proven to be a legit starting point guard across a 26-game stretch in his second season. He hasn’t played since undergoing left-knee surgery, missing the final 17 regular-season games and the entire playoffs. Plus, a team may not want to waste time with Lin since the Knicks have been vocal about matching any offers.

“We have the ability to keep him because he’s restricted,’’ Grunwald said. “We can match any offer he receives. I would anticipate doing that .f he did get an offer. Hopefully we’ll be able reach a mutually agreeable resolution [before that]’’

The only fly in the ointment is whether Toronto abandons its all-out pursuit of Nash and turns to Lin, the NBA’s first Chinese-American. Toronto has the league’s largest Asian community. The Raptors can offer Lin a maximum $5 million in each of the first two years, then balloon to a maximum $15 million in the third year in what’s known as a back-loaded offer. Or poison pill. That would destroy the Knicks from a luxury-tax standpoint.

Grunwald is trying not to overpay as the Knicks veer into the newly severe luxury-tax territory if they sign all four free agents at substantial numbers.

The Knicks desperately need veteran backcourt help and with their $3 million mid-level exception should be in the mix for point guards Jason Kidd, Andre Miller, Raymond Felton, Jameer Nelson and shooting guard Ray Allen.

They also have veteran Spanish League point guard Pablo Prigioni, who visited two weeks ago, on their radar. The Knicks only have one guard under contract, Toney Douglas. Grunwald said he is looking for “experience.’’

“The guard position is something obviously we have to address,’’ Grunwald said. “Hopefully, we’ll deal with our own free agents but when you look at our roster, the holes are there. ’’
