Despite being banned from the Knicks, Stephon Marbury is strongly thinking about attending tonight's game in Los Angeles against the Lakers - as a fan. No word which team he'll root for. Marbury told The Post last week he was headed for a two-week West Coast vacation to get out of the cold weather and begin training in the Hollywood Hills. Marbury was investigating whether he was allowed to buy courtside seats and sit among the celebs. The exiled point guard was ordered to stay away from Knick games and practices in an official capacity. The Lakers are raging-hot, with a 10-game winning streak and 20-3 record. -- NY Post

---may would end up sittin his a.ss on the bench. i could care less bout him, UNC alum or not... all that n*gga wants to do is drink w/ college kids n drunk bi*ches all day. word is bond. but at least we get an eddy curry who is gone after the season's out.

---diaw would be a good fit, providing depth from the 1-4. And he'd thrive in a lesser role.

---bell is a very good look. adds to the perimeter D, can shoot the 3. he has heart too and won't back down, even since the 01 philly - LA series.

i honestly don't mind diaw for 3 yrs. he's a good versatile player to have, he can't hurt the team especially in SSOL. i swear we might end up as the 2010 phoenix suns. nash, amare, bell, and diaw all have the potential to be knicks in 2010, only we'll have bron, duhon, WC, d lee, nate, hasheem/rubio, and maybe Al H to add to the mix. not a bad look...

Patrick Ewing Jr. made his NBDL debut on Monday night for the Reno Bighorns, scoring 15 points and grabbing a pair of rebounds.

His presence with New York's D-League affiliate doesn't mean he's a lock to return to the Knicks though.

"No promises," he said of rejoining the Knicks in a conference call Tuesday. "Maybe wishful thinking."

Because discussions about a contract extension can begin this off-season, the Suns will be forced to weigh Amare Stoudemire's value. Is he worth the maximum contract or will the team feel he's reached his potential and that more can be gained by dealing him? "I can say this with complete certainty," one NBA executive said, "that everybody's paying a little extra attention to Amare this season." -- Arizona Republic

Stephon Marbury, who has a place in L.A., decided to come out here to train and work on his Starbury business. Negotiations with the Knicks are at a stalemate. "I'm earning my check by doing nothing," Marbury said. "I'm enjoying it to the fullest. I can go in and out of the country when I want during the season. They'll make a decision when they're ready to make a decision. I'm getting healthy, adding two, three years to my career. This has been great for me, able to heal." -- NY Post

Mike D'Antoni and Phil Jackson have radically different playbooks and coaching styles, but Jackson, a former Knick, praised D'Antoni's work so far. "The friends that I have that are still alive back there, that aren't passed away from old age, are saying this is kind of fun to watch," Jackson said. Critics of the run-and-gun game say that it is only effective in the regular season and cannot be used to win championships. Jackson, who has won nine titles as a coach, disagreed, referring to D'Antoni's four-year run with the Phoenix Suns. "Even though they never got through the finals in the West, they got there a couple times and they were effective," he said. -- NY Times

starting to be a scary thought, but if people play for pay cuts and we pretty much restarted our books by 2010 minus the one person, maybe 2 ppl we still are paying for (diaw if we do that trade this year & jefferies) of who will come to NY

Stephon Marbury said Tuesday night he's talking to teams and claimed the media will be "shocked" to find out which team he signs with. Marbury is looking only at playoff clubs, and Boston, Miami and Dallas are potential destinations. There is concern Knicks management will be so vindictive, it will not waive Marbury until after March 1, the last date a signed player can be eligible for a playoff roster. -- NY Post

Tim Thomas seemed to be speaking for all of his teammates when the Knicks forward was asked about a certain exiled point guard making an appearance at Tuesday's game in Los Angeles. "Who gives a ---," Thomas said. "We're trying to establish ourselves as a team and get better. If he wants to be here just to get some attention, that's on him." -- NY Daily News

Kobe Bryant says he expects the Knicks to be major players in the 2010 free-agency sweepstakes. And one of the reasons for that is Mike D'Antoni. "Obviously it's a huge market," Bryant said after the Lakers' entertaining 116-114 win over the Knicks on Tuesday night at Staples Center. "But players really love D'Antoni, love playing for him." Bryant and D'Antoni have a relationship that goes back to when the Knicks coach, a former Italian League star, was Bryant's idol growing up in Italy while his father, Joe (Jellybean) Bryant, played in the country. Kobe and D'Antoni were together on the gold medal-winning Olympic team this summer in Beijing and, despite a few past playoff wars between the Lakers and Suns, the two have maintained strong mutual respect. -- Newsday

Heat forward Shawn Marion was as brief as he's been all season when asked about the trade rumor after practice. "The reality of it is if somebody wants to say something one day they can say it," he said tersely. "And how far is it going to carry? It can go all way the way up to the G.M. or president. But is it true? No. It's not guaranteed it's true. Do I listen to everything everybody says? No." -- Palm Beach Post

Some Knicks players, who seem to ooze jealousy at the national attention Stephon Marbury receives, appeared irritated he showed up in a courtside seat, front-row baseline with a ticket stub in skirting his official ban. Marbury spent most of the time on his cell phone text-messaging. Some players pretended they never saw Marbury, though as they came out for second-half warmup, the lightning rod was surrounded by a dozen media members adjacent to the court. Though Queens native Lamar Odom and former teammate Trevor Ariza gave Marbury hugs, none of the Knicks came over to Marbury to say hello, as if doing so would be a violation of team policy. To further demonstrate the Knicks' discomfort, the James Dolan-run MSG Network made the decision not to interview the banished Marbury on camera, though it had brought along a special sideline reporter in Mike Crispino. Marbury instead was interviewed on the Lakers' Fox Sports telecast. "Too sensitive," one MSG official said. -- NY Post
