The Knicks are planning to waive Mobley today to open up a much-needed roster spot. Signing Patrick Ewing Jr. is an option, but not the only one. Walsh may wait to see if he can use one of his trade exceptions to land a shooting guard or make a 2-for-1 trade. Ewing is a small forward. Walsh could take a week before deciding. -- NY Post

Cuttino Mobley, a Knick less than three weeks who never played a minute for the team, has decided to retire because of signs he has a potentially life-threatening heart disease, according to three people familiar with the situation. Mobley, a 12-year veteran with a career 16-point scoring average, will announce his retirement at a press conference today. The 33-year-old, who played most of his career with Houston and the Clippers, met with Knick president Donnie Walsh yesterday and informed him of his decision. After reviewing a battery of heart tests across the past two weeks, Mobley has been convinced he has symptoms for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the disease that k!lled Hank Gathers and Reggie Lewis. -- NY Post

can u imagine how good this trade would have been if we actually had a HEALTHY Mobley???.....he would have fit so well into this offense...

Walsh looks even more like a genius now that they will be able to signoff on a medical retirement....they free up an extra roster spot, save the money owed to Mobley in '09 (i believe his deal is insured) and they gain a "Trade Exemption" that can be used to fill his roster spot

although i really was interested to see how the pus*y Cat could have played with this squad

New York Knicks guard Cuttino Mobley has informed the team that he will retire from professional basketball following extensive medical evaluations. It has been determined that Mobley has a heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that has progressed to the point where he can no longer play. “The specialists I have seen made it clear that my heart condition has gotten worse, and I cannot continue to play professional basketball without putting my health and life in serious danger,” Mobley said. “As much as I want to keep playing in the NBA, I have no choice but to follow the advice of my doctors and step away from the League. I have had the privilege of playing in the NBA for 11 years, but my health and family must come first, and it is time to move on to the next stage in my life. “This has definitely been a shocking situation for me, but I want my fans, friends and loved ones to know that I will be fine. My career has been a blessing and I am grateful to have had this experience.”

fu*k it since nobody talking about these other possibilities guess i'll post this up as well...

With Nate Robinson due back from injury Saturday, Donnie Walsh is in no hurry to fill the roster spot left vacant by the retirement of Cuttino Mobley.

The Knicks could be interested in Jannero Pargo or Carlos Delfino, both of whom are currently playing in Russia. The team could also explore trades involving Sacramento's Quincy Douby or Portland's Sergio Rodriguez.

Patrick Ewing Jr. has officially has signed with the D-League and seems to be in the Knicks' short-term plans. But the team's more immediate need is at guard and Ewing Jr. most likely will take the roster spot that will open when Stephon Marbury is bought out and released.

The Suns and Knicks reportedly have interest in point guard Jannero Pargo, who is currently playing for Dynamo Moscow in Russia.

Phoenix has until Dec. 26 to reach the league minimum of players following the Charlotte trade.

Pargo may be able to get out of his contract and return to the NBA.

The Knicks have an open roster spot after the retirement of Cuttino Mobley and could swing a 2-for-1 trade in order to fill the vacant spot.

A number of players entered the trade market on Sunday, with players drafted in the first and second rounds of June's draft becoming tradable. In addition, free agents that were signed this summer can now be dealt.

Coach Mike D'Antoni admitted that the Knicks will first try to fill the roster spot through a trade.

The idea of Steve Nash being reunited with Mike D'Antoni in 2010 was being floated long before the Knicks entered the LeBron James sweepstakes. It seems like a natural fit: Nash was the brains and guile behind D'Antoni's up-tempo offense with the Suns. He won two MVP awards and became the point guard every player wants on his team. Plus, Nash and his family live in Manhattan during the offseason. "It's so far away," Nash said Sunday. "I think if you start thinking about that, you can get yourself in trouble. I've got enough on my plate here trying to be as big a contributor and help this team be as successful as possible, especially amidst the transition (from D'Antoni to new coach Terry Porter). "I can't afford the time to worry about 2010 yet. Maybe in 2010, June, I'm sure it'll be important to me, but right now I've got a lot of important things to worry about." Nash turns 35 in two months, and who knows how effective and/or healthy he'll be when he becomes a free agent in 2010. But if Nash is fit and the Knicks have the look of a contender, he could make the move East. If he had the option now, Nash sounds like he would consider being a stowaway on the Knicks' charter plane. -- NY Daily News

The Knicks have made it clear that they want to trade Eddy Curry because moving his contract would clear even more salary cap room for 2010. Curry knows he's not wanted and would welcome a change of scenery. -- NY Daily News

Now the Knicks are benefiting from Mike D'Antoni's light touch and clever playbook, while the Suns are having a full-fledged identity crisis. So there will be a certain "Freaky Friday" element to the first meeting between D'Antoni's former team and his new one on Monday. There may even be a hint of schadenfreude, although D'Antoni is trying hard to suppress it. "I guess I'm human," D'Antoni said of the urge to gloat, "and if you're human, obviously you have different emotions." -- NY Times

Another source has said the Bobcats have maintained interest in Eddy Curry, who has yet to play this season because of a bone bruise in his left knee. The Knicks - who are owned by Cablevision, which also owns Newsday - could flip Curry for Boris Diaw, who are close in salary. Diaw's deal goes a year longer than Curry's, but it would save the Knicks $2.2 million in cap space for 2010. Raja Bell makes $5 million this season and the Knicks do not have a reasonable match - unless the Bobcats are interested in sending another player (say, Sean May's $2.6-million expiring contract) to match Malik Rose's $7.6-million expiring deal. -- Newsday

would def. help our depth and if we ever play another game with sh*tty officiating like last night, another versatile dude is VERY useful
