Classic. The production is on point. But great production doesnt always equal a great album. Doctors Advocate did suprise me and Game had the best album production wise, but his album didnt feel like an "album". It sounded like a bunch of hot tracks on a cd where as Snoops was more balanced. But Hip Hop Is Dead should be album of the year.

Nas is on point lyrically. This is up there with Stillmatic and Blueprint. His songs have a message, there's some deep sh*t on there, that old Esco storytellin sh*t. This is the first cd in a while that I can say I wasnt dissapointed with. I got my $15 for the day it drops. I hope he moves units. If this dont sell, then hip hop aint dead, but it's dying because people will buy enough records for "Snap Music" to go platinum, but Nas is Hip Hop.

Nas is the god mc. This is a classic album

finally someone who understands rap from hip hop and this album is hip hop at its best. classic. props on post

Meh I dunno. Theres some good tracks but some really bad ones. Like everyone else said Nas does not have an ear for beats whatsover. The point of music is so that its pleasing to the ears, lyrics are only 50% of it. There are many artists out there that are entertaining to listen to while spitting great lyrics over hot beats. Nas is missing this aspect. I'll go listen to Game Theory and Fishscale instead... ill give this a generous 3/5.

Which beats suck? I think only the first couple sucks, the rest are dope production-wise.

You lost on that sh*t meehn.
Carry on tradition is talkin about people like you man.

DOUBLE TEAM- yo man, dont even respond to this guys post, he doesnt understand the difference between hip hop and rap. he's not evolved mentally to understand the true thought of this album. one day he might understand that 90's rap helped make hip hop. this album aint for him.

Well both = trash. I don't give a fu*k who the sample is of. The sh*ts not pleasing to the ears. I'm bumping it was written. Then I'll go to some Godson "book of rhymes" or some sh*t.

My opinion

Nas Hip Hop is Dead

I wanted to bump a few times before i gave an opinion. I did like it first listen but I was disappointed with overall production. Although, the lack of real lyricists makes you thirsty for lyrics like his. At first i was like what was he thinking with song #6 who k!lled it. After i sat down and payed attention i realized what he meant and i really liked that he took a chance and once again delivered extreme creativity. Attention YOUNGINS, most of these new rappers and fake thugsters will not try to enlighten you this way. They will simply recycle BULLsh*t!! I get so sick of hearing this get money, i'll shoot you, get bi*ches music all day. Grow the fu*k up.... Youngsters hear that sh*t and think that’s what the world is all about. Create your own sound and your own style, STOP BITING!! There is more get money and less creative artistry these days.
I didnt like that he used thief’s theme sample again but I do like the chorus on HHID. His flow on Blunt ashes had to grow on me, tho I loved the story and the musicians he talked about. Will they really release the last song as an acapella? Other songs like Hold down the block, Carry on tradition, play on playa, U can’t k!ll me are all good songs. The production was the only thing I thought could have made the album better. Good features (Kelis, Jay-Z, Game, Snoop, Chrisette Michele, Tre Williams, & Marsha Ambrosius) A+ Lyrics and substance. Maybe a primo track, just blaze track, another kanye or dre track. I like Salaam Remi, but give him 1 less song and bless us with Primo please. I am gonna lobby for that Nas/Primo collabo. The album isn't his best and there are flaws. Mainly overall Production, yet its still dope.. Some of u hating on the album, what the fu*k are u listening to? Boring? This sh*t Rocks hard, dudes need to actually listen.
With previous albums, Nas has set the standard for excellence. Still, after a VERY lackluster year listening to Nas even with subpar production made me feel this is the album of the year.

4.6/5 Excellent

Favorite songs:

Still Dreamin
damn he and kanye need to keep collaborating one of my fave songs of the year, Nas verse is classic!!! that last verse is OOoo. When he made mention of the chick he knew from high school that is a Fox newscaster and what happened to her. That is Supreme storytelling. One of the hotter verses this year. kanye had a good verse too. damn that track, chorus and chick moaning is hypnotizing. I Love this song. :applause:

Money Over Bullsh*t
Good 1st song!! Hot track, sick lyrics
“Afraid not of none of you cowards, but of my only strength”
Ill line…

Can't Forget About You
When I first heard this would have a sample from “unforgettable” I was skeptical. Well, this was put together very well. A damn good ode to remembering past events and old school hip hop. I liked the girl singing and the chorus. Very soulful.. I am definitely awaiting her music. I liked her on both of Nas and Jay (lost ones) songs. Good Move using her Def Jam.

Hustlers
The best verse I heard from Game on somebody else’s album. I liked the chorus, and the track was nice I never skip this joint. Marsha u always shine on Busta, Game and Nas tracks. I really felt Nas verses, oOO especially the last one he should really work with Dre much more. I can’t think of a song he and Dre did that wasn’t hot. Can You? Is this the last we’ll here of Game over a Dre track? We’ll see…

Let there be light
I like hearing tre williams on the chorus, I thought it was Anthony Hamilton at first dude can sing. “Nas is the Ghetto American Idol, No matter what u do u can never getting my Title” LOL I liked that line…

Not going back
best song w nas in kelis i ever heard. Not a pop song at all. Nas talking about real stuff like real “millionaires” and how they buy 60 million paintings and we buy cars and give the real millionaires money. Message, they buy things that hold or increase value, we buy things that decrease in value and make others rich. DEEP… We could buy the projects but instead we buy other sh*t to outshine ourselves. This song really stuck with me after a few listens. Kelis on the chorus, nice melody…

Who k!lled it
i may not bump it every time, but I like to listen again and appreciate the approach to symbolizing hip hop as a chick and how she was k!lled and what will bring
her back. Every time I hear I get more than before.

Black Republican
i was wanting to hear each spit another verse. def a good joint, sounds like they both knew this track would be “history” I like both verses for different reasons. I just wanna hear more with the two of em on it.

Thats my 2 cents...

i doubt that was nas' intention on "Who k!lled It"...i thought he was trying to sound like a detective in one of those old black and white movies...

i'm a huge NaS fan and when i hear this it reminds me of NaS when he did God's Son as far as the overall sound of the album. i only had one listen of it so far and it's definetly rider music, ride to in your car when u're driving out somewhere just chillin, specially those tracks with him and Kanye and him and Snoop.

So far I give it a 3.5 and I REALLY HOPE THIS ISN'T THE RETAIL b/c like one dude said, it doesn't match the tracklist on Amazon.com and a few tracks were cut so I'm hoping "another" retail drops with the same tracklist as the one Amazon.com

EDIT: aww what the fukk was i sayin!? after listening to it 3 more times i see that the album is a 4.5. the first time i think i was rushing too fast and based it off the tracks that jumped right out at me and i really wanted those other tracks to be up here. NaS that dude tho, no doubt.

Def Jam=0-2 with it's big time artists. Someone above me said it right, If hip hop wasn't dead it's now! The album is just like everything now. a couple bangers, and then just crap! What i might pay to get a decent album to where at least half the songs were replayable. But just my thoughts, and if this album does it for you. Go support the n*gga
