When you win it doesn't matter.. Truthfully all that sh*t with NCAA happened after Erickson started to lose.. But while were chugging a long we could do know wrong.. Maybe the media hated on us but NCAA was like um ya just keep going..

Its when you fall out of the public eye that they start k!lling you with rules and penalties.

id be suprised if Hatcher didnt end up at LSU...which might not be such a bad thing.

to slow to play safety here but not big enough to play LB, he's a rover type of player...think Myron Rolle

Sabino ....dont really know.

Patrick Johnson still a Hurricane ?

[pic - click to view]

Pompano Beach Ely High School DB Patrick Johnson attended the recent USC summer camp Thurs.-Sat. and commented afterward that it was now a two-team race between UM and the Trojans.

But today he's backing off that statement.

"It's not open - no, man," he said. "Miami, that's where my heart is. I'm staying with the Canes. I said (USC) really opened my eyes to see what college has to offer. But Miami's where it's at.

"I just got off the phone with coach (Wesley) McGriff. He knows where my heart is."

Why did the UM commitment decide to attend the USC camp?

"It was my dad's decision to go around," Johnson said. "He made the reservations and we went out there. I learned a lot of techniques while I was there that the guys taught me."

Johnson enjoyed a dominant performance at the camp.

"Man, wherever I go I represent Florida," he said. "They didn't give out awards, but it was clearly shown I could have got one.

"The coaches said I had a great performance. They offered a scholarship, but I'm sticking with the Canes."

Asked if he will be attending other summer camps or taking other unofficial visits, Johnson said, "If my dad doesn't surprise me, that's it."

Johnson didn't rule out taking official visits to schools other than Miami, but says "I doubt I'll do that. It depends when the time comes around."

Johnson will be graduating high school early.

He finished his junior season with 54 tackles and seven interceptions

He's being recruited as a cornerback, and he also could return kicks -- last year he had a 72-yard punt return for a score and brought back kickoff returns for touchdowns from 98 and 84 yards.

Seffner (FL) Armwood High School OL Matt Patchan is quick to shoot down one piece of information floating around Internet message boards.

The rumor is that he has a "Go Canes" theme on his MySpace page.

Just one problem: "I don't have a MySpace page," Patchan says. "Maybe one of my friends made a page for me without telling me."

Patchan does like the Canes, though.

He has a final eight of Miami, FSU, Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame and LSU.

The next step is narrowing that down to a top five, which should happen by the end of the summer.

"I'm going to visit the schools over the summer," Patchan said. "I've already visited LSU. I'm making trips here in a week or so, visiting all the other schools. Then I'll narrow it down to five at the beginning of the season."

He says he's not sure the exact date he'll be in Miami.

"We're taking two weeks off to visit all of them," Patchan said. "We're going to drive everywhere but may fly to Notre Dame.

"I'm really just trying to learn about everybody and make the right decision. This is the biggest decision of my life. I want to make sure I make the right decision."

Patchan says he speaks regularly with Cane coaches Jeff Stoutland and Joe Pannunzio.

"I'm always texting them back and forth," Patchan said. "They're recruiting me well. They talk to me about how I can step in and make an immediate impact, work and become a starter. That's their points."

Patchan says he's being recruited as a left tackle and defensive end. He wants to play both ways in college, and he says that's something he's going to raise with Cane coaches when he visits the UM campus.

When will he make a final decision?

"Since I'm going to graduate early, I'm going to make my decision in December or January," Patchan said.

Aliquippa (PA) High School WR Jonathan Baldwin had originally planned to visit Miami this month.

It never happened.

"I wasn't able to make it, but I'll be there the beginning of July," he said. " I'll also be visiting Florida."

Baldwin has narrowed down his favorites.

Kind of.

"I have a top 10," he said. "It's Miami, Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Florida, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Alabama and Florida State."

He says there are no frontrunners among the 10.

What do all the schools have in common?

"I just liked them, liked them for a long time," he said. "And Alabama because of coach (Nick) Saban – I just liked him when he was with the Dolphins. I'm a Dolphins fan."

Baldwin says he hasn't talked to Cane coaches since May but that he'll be calling them to set up the visit.

"I'm going to be in Miami for vacation, so I'll call a day before I go," he said.

He admits, "I don't know much about Miami."

Baldwin says the next step in his recruiting process will be to narrow things down to a top six.

"That will probably happen in August," he said.

Last year Baldwin had 21 receptions for 470 yards with five touchdowns.

McNeal is awaiting word on his latest test score
The Hurricane incoming freshman class reported today for summer school.

Minus two players.

Dallas (TX) Madison High School RB Shawnbrey McNeal and Hialeah (Fla.) High School DL Adewale Ojomo were not among the players that reported for the start of the second summer session at the University of Miami.

McNeal's high school coach, Ron Johnson, said the player is awaiting the result of a SAT test he took June 2.

"He is waiting for a score to come back," Johnson said. "He has a 2.5 GPA and has gotten an 810 (on the SAT) twice. But for Miami he needs an 820. He's qualified anywhere else."

McNeal was unreachable - his cell and home numbers are disconnected.

Ojomo told CaneSport.com that he received a 19 on the ACT recently. He said his previous score was a 13.

He has a 3.07 core GPA, so he is technically qualified for admission to UM.

"I'm supposed to be reporting soon," Ojomo said. "I was supposed to be reporting today, but I'm still waiting on clearance.

"I got my test scores at the last minute, so they're still processing everything. I just faxed my transcripts, so I should be there in a week."

DERRON THOMAS Q&A

Q: You look bigger. Have you added some muscle?

Thomas: I'm around 203 right now. Last year I was at 200. I just lost a lot of body fat.

Q: There's a lot of tailback depth on this roster.

Thomas: It's pretty good, but it just brings out more competition. It brings out the best in me.

Q: What do you see as your role?

Thomas: My personal goal is to get in as much as possible. Who wants to sit down? My goal is to start. That's my goal.

Q: How hard are the workouts this time of year?

Thomas: I don't think too many teams in the country do what we do. We work hard. It's tough, but we're used to it. We just keep working hard and it only makes you get better. Right now we're in the weight room and we're running a lot.

Q: How are things different under coach Randy Shannon?

Thomas: I think it's more discipline. Everyone respects him. Coach Shannon brings more fire, gets into it a little more.

Q: The defensive players knew what to expect from coach Shannon, who made a name as a disciplinarian with them. Was the offense prepared for him when he took over as head coach?

Thomas: We knew how he was because of how he treated the defense. He would take their phones, so we would leave our phones behind, too. We knew what to expect because of them.

Q: What's it like in the weight room at this time of year?

Thomas: It's tense. We let the music energize us. We all push each other. It's real fun and competitive, about getting better.

Q: What are the expectations for the team this season?

Thomas: We want to win a national championship.

Q: After last year is that a realistic goal?

Thomas: That was one year. It's a whole new team, a whole new start. We'll see what happens this year. We'll keep working hard. That's our goal every year, so hopefully that's where we'll be at.
