Congrats to MNW on winning a state title after all the chaos that went on there. I ain't get a chance to watch the game but I heard our commit Brown got burned for a few early plays but really looked like the only guy on the field that belonged there that was on that team. I heard he is really quick and has good hips. Streeter is a beast, he should get more exposure than he's gotten.

Also here's a real good article on PJ, seems like his parents did a good job with him helping him learn responsibility and sh*t. Other than all the games the kid plays with committing or not committing whatever team he ends up on is going to get a very good one.

Brown ain't get burned in a few plays; Streeter was sonning his a.ss, hauling 3 touchdown passes (i believe) on him and then mocking him on the sideline

Kicker Jake Wieclaw out of Illinois just committed. He should be starting next year as Zampogna is graduating and Daly aint coming back.

FB Patrick Hill, a JUCO transfer from California, also commited. Here's a lil info on him.

Patrick Hill
FB | 5'10" 245

Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
School: El Camino College
Region: West Status: Verbal
School: Miami (FL)

Considered: 1-Miami (FL) , 2-Florida International , 3-Texas A&M , 4-Colorado ,5-Mississippi

Evaluation: Hill appears a bit smaller than listed measurables, but this kid is a bull of a runner and blocker. He utilizes his short, compact body to consistently win the leverage battle at the point of attack. Deceivingly effective as a runner. Flashes the in-line quickness and vision to subtlety avoid the initial trash and find the open seam. Not overly explosive in the open field, but he can get to full speed quickly and builds good short-area power. Blends that power with a low center of gravity, good balance and body lean-- tough to arm tackle when he gets moving north-south. Demonstrates same short-area force as a blocker. Consistently explodes underneath defenders knocking them upright. Excels as a lead blocker; he does a great job clearing out the hole. Shows good overall body strength finishing blocks and frequently pancaking smaller linebackers. However, he does flash difficulty when working angle and perimeter blocks. Struggles sealing the edge and gaining proper positioning. Shorter arms hinder his ability to lock out and control defenders. He is inexperienced as a pass blocker and needs improvement adjusting to moving targets. We have concerns about his pass receiving skills which is a necessity in today's college fullbacks. Durability and overall ability is a concern transitioning to the Division 1 level with his lack of ideal size. Could fit in nicely with an I formation team as a lead blocker and quick hitting runner.

Well goddamn that n*gga Streeter is like 8 feet and sh*t

Every CB gets beat, y'all are acting like the kid can't play or something, I mean they were outmatched in every way by one of the best HS football teams in the entire country. Now I ain't watch the game like I said but I read that while Brown didn't play his best that he was about the only guy on that team that could even play for MNW, that's just what I heard. I heard PJ got torched at Friday Night Lights by TJ Lawrence all night while Janoris Jenkins was shutting everybody down and obviously PJ is a monster, sometimes CB's get beat. All I know is that Brown has the things a good CB needs and I'm glad we got him. Now if we got PJ we'd definitely have the best secondary class in the nation by far to go along with Jenkins, Brown, and our safeties Hill and Finley.

Canes land Arthur Brown

Arthur Brown is going to be a Miami Hurricane. On a local TV broadcast in Kansas, Brown, a 6-1, 225-pound five-star linebacker according to Rivals.com just announced his college choice.

"In the beginning I said it would all come down to how I feel," Brown said during the TV interview on KAKE.com. "I prayed and it was the University of Miami."

Brown visited UM in November and built a special relationship with linebackers coach Michael Barrow. UM coach Randy Shannon visited him at his home Dec. 8. He chose the Hurricanes over LSU, Florida, USC and North Carolina.

"I met with a lot of the players, the coaches, we really got a good connection - that's what it was all about."

Brown becomes the sixth linebacker recruit to choose the Hurricanes, but without question the most highly touted. He joins Hollywood Chaminade's Jordan Futch (4-stars), Northwestern's Sean Spence (4-stars), Memphis' Antonio Harper (3-stars), Gulliver Prep's Brandon Marti (2-stars), New Jersey's Zach Kane (2-stars). Homestead's Marcus Robinson will likely convert from linebackerr to defensive end in college.

- Brown's younger Bryce, a junior, is a highly-touted running back recruit in the Class of 2009. The family has said it could potentially follow their eldest son to college, which means Bryce would likely enroll at a local high school.

welcome to the fam, mr. brown:)

When it came to five-star LB Arthur Brown's announcement today that he would attend UM, Hurricane recruits were transformed into fans.

They were watching or awaiting word on Brown's choice just like the rest of the recruiting world.

"I was watching it on the computer (with a live video stream)," LB commitment Jordan Futch said. "I had no idea where he would pick. I was sitting here like everyone else, shocked. I thought we had a good vibe. But you never knew because he didn't do any interviews. I liked him, he liked me and it worked out perfectly and I'm excited to have him on board.

"I was so excited when he picked Miami. This was extremely big for this recruiting class. I think to land Arthur is a big jump for the linebacker corps, and he'll be a great a.sset to the University of Miami family."

CaneSport spoke with several defensive commitments after Brown's announcement, and all said landing Brown is a major step in the right direction for the Hurricane program.

"The list keeps going up with Miami commits helping to rebuild the program," end Andrew Smith said. "It makes us feel pretty good that we have a good class of linebackers coming in with us. I'm looking forward to this defense getting right.

"The coaches are doing an awesome job getting all these recruits to commit. Everybody is ready to rebuild Miami and bring it back to where it used to be."

Brown's commitment will mean more competition for linebackers like Futch, Brandon Marti and the rest of the linebackers on board. These players are all about competition and aren't shying away from trying to beat out the five-star for a job down the road.

"We're bringing in a good crop of talent, and hopefully we will change the program," Marti said. "They're bringing in five or six linebackers, so there will be competition, but you just have to just work hard and learn the system.

"Coach (Tim) Walton and (Michael) Barrow have been going on recruiting trips, and they like who we're bringing in."

Recruits say they think a reason Shannon & Co. were able to land the kind of top talent that was missing in recent recruiting classes is how hard they work.

And what they preach.

"The coaches and coaching staff and everybody around Miami is doing a great job this year," DB Joe Wylie said. "From the time that you meet them they don't lie to you, everything is honest. The family atmosphere everyone talks about is real. It's a real tight-knit family they have, and that's why they're getting the exceptional players they have."

Futch and Forston lent a hand in landing Brown
A couple of recruits also get some credit for helping land Brown. DT Marcus Forston has talked up Miami to Brown numerous times, and Futch drove down for an unofficial visit while Brown was on campus a few weeks ago. The pair hit it off.

"Me and Marcus really worked our butts off to get him to commit," Futch said. "And I know coach Barrow did a wonderful and terrific job with him. He did a tremendous job recruiting Arthur, showing him the U. We preach family, and this family is what it's all about."

With five stars comes a lot of expectations, of course. Some players live up to them, some don't. Zach Kane, a two-star linebacker commitment from New Jersey, says he's not going to be giving any thought to stars when he's trying to beat out Brown and others for a job.

"It's definitely better to have higher ranked kids than lower ranked kids on a team, but you never know who does these rankings they're rating me off my junior year film," Kane said. "Coach (Jeff) Stoutland said this is a top recruiting class, that they want to start all these freshmen so when they're seniors they'll have four years of experience. They're trying to make a championship team out of it."

Having a playmaker like Brown in the middle of the defense certainly won't hurt as the Canes try to return to their former glory.

"Getting him makes things that much better," Wylie said. "The fact that he plays on defense means a lot to me. Now having exceptional talent in front of you - seeing I play safety - it makes me feel when we get on the field at the same time it makes my job that much easier."

With a highly ranked class that is expected to swell to over 30 players by Signing Day, there will be a lot of freshmen vying to play right away next season.

And that's a selling point for these coaches. A 5-7 season certainly doesn't seem to have hurt anything in Coral Gables.

"The fact that Miami did go 5-7 and there's so many positions to be battled for next year, it makes it that much easier to get the top players," Wylie said.

* Brown's younger brother, Bryce Brown, is also a highly sought recruit. The junior running back will have a big choice to make next year.

Futch spent time with Arthur and Bryce when they were on campus.

"I don't know if it's a package deal, but if we get his brother as well to follow, that would be awesome to get another running back," Futch said. "They're two very talented kids that come from good parents, a good household, have great character."

i think he's gone completely

one name being thrown out there as a potential replacement is ed orgeron, the ex-mississippi coach. he coached miami's d-line back in the day.

or maybe shannon promotes barrow to DC, who knows.

either way, expect shannon to be way more involved with the defense from this point on, their performance last year, especially in the last 3 games, was inexcuseable.

To me the defense suffered more from injuries and lack of talent then coaching. If anyone should be replaced its our Offensive Coordinator. Hes god awful and fu*ked up so many easy inside the 5 plays. He cost us at least 10 touchdowns I can remember.
