Dolphins signed CB Andre' Goodman, formerly of the Lions, to a three-year, $5 million contract.
Goodman joins Travis Daniels and Will Poole in a young secondary in Miami. The Dolphins still need to add talent at cornerback. Goodman is probably a nickel back at best. Mar. 12 - 8:42 pm et

Dolphins signed LB Sedrick Hodge to a two-year contract worth $2 million.
He can earn up to $1 million more if he earns a starting outside linebacker spot. Hodge was a reserve in New Orleans last season. Mar. 12 - 8:32 pm et
Source: Miami Herald

Panthers signed former Titans C Justin Hartwig to a five-year, $17 million contract, with $7 million in bonuses.
It's a huge loss for Tennessee. Carolina had such a good time making a big free agency splash with Ken Lucas and Mike Wahle that they re-loaded again this year with Maake Kemoeatu and Hartwig. On paper, their O-line looks solid. Mar. 12 - 8:16 pm et

Free agent DE Darren Howard is in Philadelphia.
"I like the situation. I like the team," Howard said. "It's a matter of getting a deal done." If Howard became a free agent last year, he'd be considered one of the top players on the market. He has 44.5 career sacks. Mar. 12 - 7:08 pm et
Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Free agent WR David Givens will visit the Titans Monday.
Givens visited with Miami and Houston this weekend, although he apparently hasn't found a deal he wants. It's looking more possible that he could return to the Patriots. Mar. 12 - 6:43 pm et
Source: Boston Globe

The Texans have reportedly signed WR Kevin Walter to an offer sheet that averages $1.5 million with $2.5 million upfront.
It's probably too rich for the Bengals to match. Walter would be a valuable reserve in Houston. The Bengals would get a seventh-round pick as compensation. Mar. 12 - 6:18 pm et
Source: Bengals.com

Jamal Lewis is mulling over a possible visit to the Broncos.
Don't start up the Ron Dayne bandwagon just yet. ESPN's John Clayton says to "pencil in" the visit later this week. Mar. 12 - 6:12 pm et
Source: ESPN.com Insider

Andre Davis' contract with the Bills is for one year and $1.3 million.
ESPN's John Clayton believes something will happen soon with Eric Moulds because of the signing. Davis would fit best as the No. 3 receiver. Mar. 12 - 6:09 pm et
Source: ESPN.com Insider

Dominic Rhodes is currently atop the Colts depth chart at running back.
That won't last long. Rhodes is still in danger of getting released because of a roster bonus due to him. The Colts are likely to address the position in free agency and the Draft. Mar. 12 - 6:07 pm et

The Broncos are reportedly interested in DE Andre Carter.
Carter was the rare player to leave Washington without a contract. The Redskins are still hopeful they can sign him. Mar. 12 - 6:04 pm et
Source: Washington Post

Antwan Randle El's contract with the Redskins is for seven years and $31 million, including $10 million in bonuses.
The last few years of the contract are inevitably inflated and useless, so we still want to see what Randle El earns in the first 3-4 years. It's still pretty hard to believe a wideout without a 650-yard receiving season earned $10 million guaranteed. Mar. 12 - 5:41 pm et

Steve Hutchinson's cap number in 2006 will be $13 million.
The Vikings had so much room under the cap they can afford this. The Seahawks could potentially squeeze it in, but it will be difficult for them to match Minnesota's offer. Mar. 12 - 5:33 pm et
Source: Profootballtalk.com

Ravens re-signed LB Bart Scott to a three-year, $13.5 million contract, including a $6.5 million signing bonus.
Ozzie Newsome finally kept one of his guys from leaving. Scott, 25, filled in for Ray Lewis with 119 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks and should remain in the starting lineup. He was being pursued by the Browns. Mar. 12 - 4:51 pm et

Rams signed LB Will Witherspoon to a six-year, $33 million contract, including $15 million in guarantees.
The Rams have three new defensive starters in Witherspoon, DT LaRoi Glover, and S Corey Chavous. Witherspoon, 25, is the only one under 30 and should continue to be a steady IDP presence. Mar. 12 - 4:24 pm et

Profootballtalk.com reports that many league insiders believe Drew Brees doesn't want to play for the Saints.
New Orleans may be offering more upfront money, but reportedly only want Brees on a short-term deal. It's still speculation, but the Dolphins are reportedly offering more long-term money. They definitely offer more franchise stability. Mar. 12 - 4:14 pm et
Source: Profootballtalk.com

Edgerrin James will earn $14.75 million in 2006.
He actually will earn more in his four-year contract than Shaun Alexander will before he has to re-structure. James gets $7 million to sign and a $4.5 million roster bonus. He'll have a base salaries of $3.25 million (2006), $5.25 million (2007) and $5 million (2008 & 2009). Mar. 12 - 4:10 pm et
Source: Profootballtalk.com

Browns have agreed on a two-year deal with DT Ted Washington.
He will make $7 million over two years, a nice sum for a part-time player entering his fifteenth season. Washington is in decline as a space hog, but played some of his best ball under Romeo Crennel in New England. Mar. 12 - 3:55 pm et
Source: ESPN.com

Ravens signed DT Justin Bannan, formerly of Bills, to a four-year contract. The deal included a $3 million signing bonus.
Bannan was mostly a backup during his career with the Bills, but had a solid run as a starter at the end of 2005. Bannan was their third choice at tackle and will have a chance to start in a suddenly vulnerable interior line. Mar. 12 - 3:36 pm et
Source: Baltimore Sun

The Giants have contacted free agent DT Rocky Bernard.
On a wild first day that saw four defensive tackles signed, it was surprising that Bernard got little play. New York needs to fill the gap left by Kendrick Clancy. Mar. 12 - 10:57 am et
Source: NY Post

Chargers signed safety Marlon McCree to a five-year, $16 million contract.
The structure of the deal is uncertain, but it's not bad for a journeyman making close to the minimum before John Fox turned his career around. He will probably replace Bhawoh Jue in the starting lineup as the team's free safety. Mar. 12 - 10:25 am et
Source: San Diego Union-Tribune

The Titans are bringing in LB David Thornton for a visit Sunday.
Tennessee badly needs some speed at linebacker other than Keith Bullock. The former Colt would be a fine match. Mar. 12 - 10:20 am et
Source: Nashville Tennessean

Kerry Collins' agent called joining Baltimore "an ideal situation."
The Raiders have some interest in bringing Collins back, but Baltimore looks like the favorite for his services. Mar. 12 - 10:11 am et
Source: Baltimore Sun

The Ravens are only offering Jamal Lewis a two-year contract.
It's very interesting they offered Chester Taylor a better deal before he spurned them for less money to join the Vikings. Lewis hasn't been a hot commodity to this point in free agency. Mar. 12 - 10:10 am et
Source: Baltimore Sun

The Dolphins are now expected to retain Gus Frerotte if they sign Drew Brees.
This news has changed back and forth a few times, but Frerotte may realize the best backup job he can find is in Miami. Mar. 12 - 9:54 am et

Dolphins | Team officials dining with Brees
Sun, 12 Mar 2006 17:20:36 -0800
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/166">Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports free agent QB Drew Brees (Chargers) flew to South Florida Sunday afternoon, March 12, to meet with Miami Dolphins officials, agent Tom Condon said. "He's going to dinner with club officials tonight and I'm sure I'll talk to Randy (Mueller) tomorrow," said Condon, referring to the Dolphins' general manager. Brees said he is not rushing to sign with a new team. "I'm not going to rush it because this is a big decision. Wherever I sign is where I plan on spending the rest of my career and winning a few championships in the process and raising a family and everything else. It's more than just a one-year thing," said Brees.

Mike Anderson to sign 4-year deal with Baltimore

With one free-agent runner already gone and another likely to leave, the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night filled their need for a starting running back by reaching a contract agreement in principle with Mike Anderson.

Anderson, 32, will sign a four-year, $8 million contract that includes a $2 million signing bonus. The deal will be completed later this week. It's likely the Ravens will also try to bolster their tailback depth chart through the draft.

John Clayton Report: Dolphins QB Situation

"Nick Saban may have to hold off until Monday to make a decision on this front. Here's the situation: He can sign Drew Brees or he can trade for Daunte Culpepper. The Vikings aren't as adamant about asking for a second-round choice that could upgrade to a No. 1, but they want a second-round draft pick. They won't let Culpepper have a doctor's visit with the Dolphins, only allowing him to talk on the phone with Miami. The Dolphins are holding up the bulk of their aggressive offseason work until they resolve their quarterback situation. In the next 24 hours, their quarterback will be either Culpepper or Brees."

Lions are lookin for a backup QB or someone to compete for starting job. We'll be interviewing Josh McCown, Jon Kitna, Patrick Ramsey, maybe even Kerry Collins and Drew Brees, but Brees will want some loot.

Home again: Jamal Lewis agrees to new Ravens deal
By John Clayton
ESPN.com

Less than 12 hours after the Ravens replaced Chester Taylor with Mike Anderson, Jamal Lewis got what he wanted -- a chance to return to Baltimore.

The office of Lewis' agent, Mitch Frankel, confirmed Lewis accepted a three-year deal to stay in Baltimore. Terms of the deal were unavailable because Frankel was on a flight this morning.

Lewis was planning to go to Denver for a visit and start to find another team but he kept in touch with the Ravens. Finally, after 24 hours of negotiations, going back and forth between short-term and long-term deals, Lewis accepted a three-year deal to stay and will have a conference call with the media later this afternoon.
