he should have at least mention eminem(he did make hip-hop a little bit better when the Marshall Matters Lp drop)...most of those Mc's were straight out old school...ya they were the first who did it best but cmon now, it doesnt mean they are the best overall... #7 LL Cool J? #12 Queen Latifah? wth..

i wouldn't expect most of the posters on this website to appreciate a list like this...

as far as the total top 50, theres only 3 or 4 that wouldn't make my top 50

so i can't bi*ch much, the order is pretty much wacked out.... not the top 20, i think 30-50 is kinda weird

look out for the real TOP 50...

It's actually a pretty crap list in my view, from someone like him you'd expect a much better effort. Others have already mentioned some of the flaws, but there are a few more that need to be mentioned. Canibus and Eminem should be there, omitting them is absurd, and putting himself so high is ridiculous as well. Melle Mel is a pioneer but he does not deserve the top spot, I wouldn't even put him in the top 20 to be honest. Pun being so low is a joke, and Slick Rick & GZA are both far too low. Treach, Jay, Latifah, Lauryn and Caz are too high, and LL is a bit too high as well when you look at the torrent of pop crap he's put out over the years. There's more but I've made my point...

Honestly Eminem should have been on that list. One of the best lyricists ever, influencial, battle emcee, and that was what Kool Mo Dee was judging upon.

man i have this book. it was released a couple of years ago. at the end of the book he has some notes saying he didnt include a couple of cats in there such as em and a few others because they had only been in the game for like 2-3 years and their body of work wasnt as extensive say compared to uhh dudes like krs and cool j who have like twenty albums over the last twenty years. same thing sort of applies for some hip hop groups where its hard to narrow sh*t down. he said he will release a top 50 greatest groups of all time book some time. anywho you dudes need to stop getting your panties in a knot because its all an opinion anyways. i wouldnt agree with his list entirely, as someone said big pun is like 40 something but it isnt too shabby. its nice to see ras kass on that list though. he addresses all areas of the emcee from flow, industry impact and poetic value to live performance, longevity and battle skills. kool mo dee is a bit of a wanka though, if you read the section on himself where he is ranked somewhere in the top 10, he gives himself a massive wrap. this dude needs to get off his own d*ck dropping statements like i am the all time greatest battler. i am the king when it comes to this and that and this blah blah blah. nevertheles the book is an interesting read. peace.

oh yeh and those of you saying will smith shouldnt be on that list, well it might not seem like it but big will did a lot for hip hop back when he came out. sure his music now is garbage but he still is an influential an integral part of the development of the artform. good to see gza on that list too. dude is highly underrated...
