I just got my first whip, a 1988 Honda Prelude, perfect condition, and I was gonna hook it up with Alpine stuff, then I got it and found out it has a Kenwood CD Deck...Can I still hook up Alpine speakers, amp, and subs to it? Or am I out of luck?

go to the audio shop ask them for what is called a step down.........but trust me you should just buy an aftermarket head unit cause the sound from your factory radio is gonna be crappy........orrrrrrr check out the JL Audio Clean Sweep......

Ditto on new head unit.. But either you can do waht they said or just get a PAC connector (check Ebay).. In my maxima i got the bose and im saving to get the new Avic N1 So i just used the pac connector And it was all done in like 20 minutes

check out the CleanSweep at JLAudio.com I have it in my 03 accord and i run an amp and w7 off my factory deck... Works great and sounds just as good as an aftermarket head-unit

Low Level Converter my friend............your best bet is to tap off of rear speaker leads behind the radio, converts high level frequencies to low level (bass freqs) and then sends them through rcas.........real easy to do, converters come with directions as well, just need a signal tester.....I work at CC in roadshop and ours go for $19.99

in most cases here's a little key for you (might come into play, might not) just to give you a heads up if you don't have a tester

white - front left positive
white/black stripe - front left negative
grey - front right positive
grey/black stripe - front right negative
-------------------------------------
green - rear left positve
green/black stripe - rear left negative
purple - rear right positive
purple/black stripe - rear right negative

You have to get an adapter like cable for it. Its not inexpensive because the cable is made by the same that made your factory CD deck, usually the car brand.

Also I doubt the factory deck has features that let you control your sub and what frequencies go to it and such.

i have to agree with alot of peps on this, go with and aftermarket head unit, its gonna put out more and clearer singal per speaker, and most case have an preamp line for the sub, and most have sub on/off feature, which can come in handy sometimes

if you dont want to spend the money on a aftermarket head unit than all you do it go and get a converter the goes into the back of your factory as the rcas for you to plug your subs into

you'll need a converter and you'll get a kinda crappy signal/quality

i ahve a factory deck still cuz my parents are nazis about modding the car, and u can tell that the subs rn't hitting up to their potential and could definitely sound better and louder on a new deck cuz really good decks send a stronger, clearer signal
