I go more for lyrical content as opposed to strict lyrical skill. Also the artist has to know how to MAKE a song. Song talent, to me, is more than just laying words over beats. Concepts, statements, etc mean a great deal when I listen to music.

Of the artist mentioned, only Nas cracks my top 5.

1) Rakim
2) Nas
3) Redman
4) Kool G Rap
5) Big L
6) Cormega
7) Biggie
8) Az
9) Eminem

As you can prolly tell, I am big into wordplay and story telling

Jigga and Pac are in the top 15 or so.

@ the east coast or whatever idiots in this thread. I @ the cats who dont have 2pac and Nas in their top five. They got college classes and sh*t that study 2pac's lyrics. So how could he not be a great lyrics. Name another rapper that had that kind of impact. fu*k yall talking bout. If you dont have Pac in your top five of all time, then you dont know anything about hiphop point blank. Get mad if you want. I could understand if you said that he's not one of your favorite top five rappers. That you like five of other rappers more than him, but to not acknowledge that he's not a top 5 rapper of all time is just ****** :thumbsdow @ this thread and the people who posted in it wit their comments and to the person who had Krayzie Bone in their top 5 and not 2pac makes the whole damn list invalid. That goes for alot of your lists that was made in this dumb thread. Im not talking about the thread starter tho, im talking about the comments in it.

No B.I.G., two albums doesn't make you the best IMO. The best needs longevity.

Rakim don't get as much props as he should get!

"Many recent rappers (both underground and mainstream) acknowledge a huge debt to Rakim's innovative style."

Just listen to Eric B. & Rakim's first 2 albums, & all I can tell you, it has F-L-O-W! :applause:

TUPAC -
for me tupac just churned out the greatest rap songs over and over again. tupac's music will live on for ever mainly because of how much passion he had in his music and how deep he is.

NOTORIOUS B.I.G
an amazingly talneted emcee with top notch production... might have got pacs spot if he had made more music.

IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE
a straight genius, who spits more knowledge than anyone ever has or will IMO. the albums he has brought out are as consistant as it gets.

BIG L
no one has ever made me laugh on a mic like L did... and had a fu*king unique flow.

NAS
consistant and smart rapper, who consistantly brings out great albums. ever since listening to illmatic, i have been a nas fiend.

sorry jay!!!!
