Because the Aftermath album, which I'm pretty sure at one time was considered a Dre solo, nobody really cared about. Plus The Firm flopped, according to Dre.

Dre might be #1. Nas with Stillmatic and winning the battle is up there too. Those are probably the top 2.

If that Aftermath album went quadruple plat, he'd claim it as a solo album.

I don’t even know what would classify as the category. I would need to see a list of songs to compare

Ok, that doesn't change the fact that had it went quadruple, he would claim it as a solo album. It was presented as such when it was being promoted, and there are multiple magazine articles from that time that verify this. He wanted to ditch the gangsta rap sound because of the negativity surrounding Death Row, found out no one wanted to hear that, then years later it's back to lowriders and Snoop and other features carrying.

Nas returning with Stillmatic was better. Everyone thought Nas was finished and Takeover was the finishing blow but Ether brought Nas back with a vengeance.

Everyone actually didn't think that... And I'm not being literal... There was a LARGE faction of hip hop fans who were just anticipating what Nas' response would be...most people saying what u just did, didn't live it in real time. Summer Jam was lit for Jay calling him out in the first verse of takeover and then people saw Nas wasn't going anywhere when stillmatic freestyle dropped, also in summer like a month later... Then two months later blueprint came out and people were hyped by the full song and Jay dropping the sh1t bout Carmen. At that point, people were just anticipating what Nas' response would be and there obviously was gonna be a response since people knew his album was coming out. Very few people, including Jay stans thought anything was 'finished'...

Also, I Am went double platinum and nastradamus went platinum...in the same year. On what planet is that someone 'everyone thought was finished' when he was still one of the highest selling artist dropping 2 platinum joints in 1 year after being bootlegged and forced to change album. What nas came back from was the perception that he was becoming increasingly commercial and not the 'savior' purists envisioned him to be...so that was the disappointment. They thought the nas they loved and wanted to see most was never coming back again...and stylistically he returned to that, hence title of album. This narrative that his career was in jeopardy is revisionist history nonsense that mostly younger fans run with.

Because Dre lost steam for a while then after Em’s success….. and Snoop coming back into the fold it was victory for Dre all over again…… simple….

Pad said Dre was gay on songs and said he was too lazy sucking and eating pu$$y

Yea dre second album was ok
But u can tell he was on the eastcoast
The production wasn't the same
