Here’s more information from Engadget who spoke to a Halo Studios developer:
•At least 5 employees were laid off, they received an invite to a meeting with organization leaders, and two (very long) hours later, the Teams call began.
•The mood at the studio is tense, especially when it comes to one project that was recently in crisis, according to the developer.
"I don't think anybody is really happy about the quality of the product right now," they said. "There's been a lot of tension and pep talks trying to rally folks to ship."
•Since 2023, there's been a general shift toward working with contracted studios — rather than individual contractors — in the United States and Europe to speed up Halo production.
•Developer says Microsoft is trying their damndest to replace as many jobs as they can with AI agents.

Microsoft's Layoffs:
- Microsoft Gaming has undertaken several rounds of layoffs, including:
Nearly 3,000 jobs cut in 2024, involving the closure of studios like Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin.
- Further cuts were made later in 2024, with 650 staff removed from the gaming business.
- In May 2025, Microsoft laid off about 6,000 workers, or nearly 3% of its global workforce.
- In July 2025, an additional 9,000 employees were laid off across Microsoft's various divisions, including its Xbox gaming division. This round also saw the cancellation of games like Perfect Dark and Everwild, and the closure of Perfect Dark developer The Initiative.

Sony's Layoffs:
- In February 2024, Sony announced layoffs impacting 900 PlayStation employees, approximately 8% of the global workforce of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE).

Crazy... My Xbox literally yesterday just started shutting off saying it was overheating. I Google info.... Open it up to clean out any dust and there was none but some games play and some don't..... F*** Xbox! Remind me of the red ring of death days smh

I meant tech as a whole and for PC I choose my own parts based off the performance I'm looking for. Plus I'll used the PC for education and work not just gaming. There are always deals on PC parts. Everything is on PC or coming eventually so might as well transition. Now that I'm older there is no game that I can't wait to get ported to PC or that I feel will dictate me having to buy a console again.

Nah ngas won’t be getting me with the revisionist history. Xbox was always a shallow, nothing company that leaned in on trends whenever they could. The fatigue surrounding beige looking shooters is largely their fault. Anyone who remembers mid to late 360/PS3 era knows what I am talking about. Their two biggest games were shooters. Ngas want to act like because they also had Fable that this was some creative powerhouse. Fck off.

Gaming is tech. Product, scrum masters, devs, declaritive devs, UI/UX, Business Analyst all interchangeable. Scrum is the standard development process in tech. Whether you�re making a game or an app.

Nah. All the creatives who were execs left or were pushed out. It’s literally just suits left. J.Allard, Ed Fries etc… Peter moore during 360. They had all the biggest games, whether or internally of through 3rd party. Mass effect, kotor, jade empire, ninja gaiden, dead or alive, project Gotham, morrowind, jet set radio future. These games are better than everything that has dropped this generation. Halo revolutionized the genre. There wasn’t even matchmaking in games before halo 2. Party chat etc.. you capping like crazy
