And it got little to no attention because the story hits too close to home and it's why the film is so damn good.

I tried to watch it but had to step away after that Tracy Ross scene. I turned it on looking for a light comedy - wasn’t ready for that

It was good but lacked some depth when it came to black writing. I get the satire but it was missing the mark, I really liked all the family issues at hand, but outside of that was a bunch of fluff.

I would have liked to see Monk's philosophies when it came to black ignorance, and extensive racial epithets from authors like Mark twain... I see what his point was when making the "fu#k" book, but it took a weird turn... wasn't about racial undertones.... it kind of played it safe...

(the beginning with issa rae was great though. and the bookstore scene.. needed more of that)

not sure if anyone agrees with me here.

I did however enjoy the ending.

really great movie, it got over looked because of Barbie and Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer deserves its praise more than the former imo. really enjoyed the humor and dry humor, i wish they would have dived deeper in to some of the conversations they were having especially Monk vs Sintara pov.
Definitely top 10 movie from last year, could and should of gotten more recognition award season, Sterling, Jeffery, the writers all well deserved

It was good. There were a lot of good movies last year that got out shined by that barbieheimer meme. the Holdovers was my movie of the year tho.

I gotta say that I disagree, while I get the critique, I thought the final version of the ending did everything you said the film didn't. But great minds can disagree and subjective issues.
