I used to make $140k as Technical Support Engineer with no degree or credentials. It didnt happen overnight though. I worked a low end support job for 5 years, built up my technical aptitude while there until they had nothing to offer. Then i left and shopped my skills around, and a recruiter from Google hit me on LinkedIn. I ended up with three offers from there. Hackerrank, and the spot I went to. I didnt take the Google job, as the other gig paid more and was closer to home. I started at $89k with $16k per year in RSUs. After a few years i was up to $124k base, 10% bonus, and another bundle of RSU (those come in yearly)

I tell young men who only kind of like school to jump in the skilled trades and use it as a stepping stone then hit up the local community college and learn drafting/design or business. Get into design/engineering or open your own business. You’ll have a leg up on everyone. I was an electrical apprentice then got into fire alarm/access control, then got a drafting design degree. Now right at about 90k as a designer and going back to school for my BS in Electrical Engineering next spring
