What's the goal of skits like these?
|
to keep the attention off of the real problems
being mean, rude and disrespectful is what's cool now
it started with the birth of harassment-bully-pr0n way back in 1991 with What About Bob? a movie about a psychiatrist who did nothing to anyone, but has his life ruined by a patient anyway
then it was As Good As It Gets which is about an a$$hole that torments a neighbor who is just trying to be nice
meanwhile, Everybody Loves Raymond is rising with miserly parents who are manipulative, abusive and unlikable
on to Reign Over Me which is one of the most sadistic bully-pr0n movies about a guy who bullies a trauma survivor who lost his whole family on 9/11 and almost gets the guy ki1led by cops and committed to an asylum for no other reason than because the survivor was different
then, one of the most successful sitcoms of all time - Big Bang Theory - features a callous, obtuse, weapons-grade spectrum a$$hole
but the Titanic of bully-pr0n movies is Whiplash, a movie about an a$$hole who was put on this earth to be an a$$hole and who wants nothing more out of life but to be an a$$hole because he's a fu#kin a$$hole
so, for the last 30 years, pop culture has encouraged, fostered and rewarded people who are mean, rude and disrespectful because all of the things above are dearly beloved by faith-based American culture
being kind is soft and there's no literally no material reward or even any real incentive to be a good person or help others
some people don't have any concept of life without these themes and perspectives, they don't understand that being unpleasant
is unpleasant for others, they talk down to people, but don't like
being talked down to, people seriously think being mean is cool, funny and acceptable
it's a big reason why young people always have disgusted looks on their face, regularly bark and snap with spastic-urgent-contempt and lack any patience, tolerance or empathy
