Props welcomed, OP make better post.
tldr: Hypokalemia (Low potassium presence in blood) was caused by the excess soda due to drinking 7 liters of soda every day for 10 years.
long form cliffs.
48 year old man named BA drinks crazy amounts of soda
has no idea it's ki1ling him nor mentions it to medical professionals he is OD's on soda.
BA checks in to hospital for sudden weakness unable to stand on his own.
18 years ago when he was 30 his job offered free empolyees unlimited coke as a perk
he would drink until he had to clean his desk multiple times a day.
8 years forward when he was 38 he would wake up very thirsty the more he drank he got more thirsty when he went p1ss in that morning he would pee way more than the liquid he thought he drank his stomach would hurt and brain fog he woke up in the hospital his wife told him his co-workers found him unconscious at his desk.
BA had a diabetic coma his blood sugar has been sky high for at least the last 3 months he also had high blood pressure cholesterol doctors told him to change his diet.
BA decided to start drinking zero sugar soda about half the time.
Ba left the company with free soda then start buying soda in bulk he would drink a case a day.
BA got out of bed 1 morning with leg cramps and was peeing often again.
he went back to bed then gets up again fell to the ground and calls 911
Hospital looks for the cause BA"s medical records shows high blood pressure high cholesterol and a blood test finds he has Hypokalemia (Low potassium presence in blood) life threateningly low and his kidneys are shutting down blood test also shows parts of his muscles have been damaged and they are spilling their contents out (Rhabdomyolysis) aka muscle breakdown.
the medical team tells him they will give him potassium for his Hypokalemia and monitor his urine, meanwhile in the hospital on IV fluids he gets extremely thirsty, often when people are on IV fluids and no not drink for several hours they complain of dry mouth and throat also a massive headache BA was admitted into a step-down unit in a busy hospital and monitored.
BA frustrated and not feeling good he called his wife to drink his some drinks because the doctor has he needed fluids, she bought him soda the more he drank the thirstier he got.
BA's headache went away and his thirst went away.
Next day the hospital finds he still has Hypokalemia (Low potassium presence in blood) despite getting IV potassium when they looked closely they notice he pissed 4 gallons of urine in the last 24 hours.
He was given about 1 gallon of IV fluids the medical team has no idea where the urine comes from.
his kidneys are drawing body water dehydrating himself to force fluid thru his body.
BA is still weak the medical staff doesn't know what's happening to him if untreated his Hypokalemia will cause an abnormal heart rate to suddenly appear causing his heart shaking in place no longer pumping blood through his body.
The hospital stops all fluids and confirms his kidneys are wasting all the IV potassium they were giving him to stop his Hypokalemia.
1 day a medical student saw BA have a visitor, his wife was carrying a large case of soda into his room the student saw BA drink every since can of soda he never seen excess to that degree.
the next morning the medical student went to the hospital early with notes to presence to the medical team pointing them to excessive soda being the cause of his Hypokalemia (Low potassium presence in blood).
