One of the all time great opening scenes in cinema. Ballsy move ki1ling the most recognizable star of your movie first. Truly established an air of unpredictability to the entire film.

Damn in 1996 I was 9/10, I do remember this movie coming out. Last year October I watched all the screams in order one week. I have not seen the new Scream 6, maybe I’ll watch next month.

One of the greatest horror flicks. If you think about it, Scream may be the best horror franchise.

Also, after Scary Movie came out, you can't help but laugh and think of certain parts of the movie when you rewatch Scream. Wayans brothers fcked it up for everyone

Or they couldn’t afford her for the whole movie

From what I read it was barrymores idea to have her character ki1led off early.

I’m not sure if you were around back then but drew Barrymore was promoting the movie as if she were the main character.

Neve Campbell wasn’t highly known before this.

Actually, she was originally cast as the lead Sidney Prescott. It was her idea to switch to the role of Casey, and be the one who dies first.

According to the actor-turned-talk-show-host, the original film was a project she was "silently producing", for which she didn't get a credit for. Originally attached to play the role of Sidney (which eventually went to Neve Campbell), Barrymore said that it was her idea to play the first person to die at the hands of Ghostface, Casey.

She went to the producers with her idea, saying that as a viewer of horror movies: "You kind of always have this tension, but you kind of know that your hero is going to make it. And I thought 'What if I die?', and then it'll be like all bets are off, anybody could get ki1led in this movie and would take away that cliché safety net of 'the girl always gets away'."

"Scream" is one of my all time favorite franchises in any genre. They each bring something different, each building on what the previous did. They're also just really fun slasher movies that work equally as horror, parody of horror, satire, and mystery.
