Without the religious aspect, I know that trichinosis was a big concern. But it's not much of a concern anymore with the current agricultural laws and widespread knowledge of the dangers of consuming undercooked meat.

I used to eat oysters for zinc content. 3-4 a day. Oysters are loaded!! You can get like 5-8 mgs per oyster. Problem is, oysters can taste like sh1t!!! Because they are literally trashcans and filters of sea!!! Water Conservationists, etc use them all time to clean up dirty water. They filter dead fish parts, fish sh1t and whatever else is in the water. I started eating them. Then eventually I would get queasy and lightheaded. Even after fully cooking them. They are toxic af. This is why they trigger immune responses in a lot of people. I had to go back to red meat for zinc instead lol.

In the age in which these books were written food sanitation was not advanced enough to safely store and cook pork. Pork often made people ill because they didn't understand how to handle and prepare it safely which people thought was due to the domestic pig's environment but really it was because people would butcher sh1t and leave it out at room temp until cooking it several hours later and would surprise surprise get food poisoning

Christians by tradition can eat whatever they want...and as far as that the feet...it's put that way so the people of the time Kno what to look for....the people were uneducated and wouldn't understand the meaning of y not to eat it...they was jus supposed to do as they are told
