Martha Stewart has waded into the hotly contested remote work debate.

In an interview with the magazine Footwear News, the author, TV personality and entrepreneur slammed hybrid work culture, saying that people cannot “possibly get everything done working three days a week in the office and two days remotely.”

Stewart’s comments come as more managers push for an end to the work-from-home trend that took hold more than three years ago at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stewart compared the state of in-person work in the United States to France, calling it “not a very thriving country.”

“Look at the success of France with their stupid … you know, off for August, blah blah blah. That’s not a very thriving country. Should America go down the drain because people don’t want to go back to work?”

Stewart told the magazine that she is on a “rampage” to get people in the United States back into offices.

Stewart is not the only high-profile figure strongly advocating for in-person work. The CEOs of many banks, including Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase, asked some employees to return to work five days a week in the last two years.

More recently, Telsa’s CEO Elon Musk came down even harder on the work-from-home trend, calling it “morally wrong.”

The question of whether in-person work is necessary kicked into high gear three years ago when many companies decided to send most white-collar employees home at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since then, office culture has yet to rebound fully. According to swipe data from Kastle Systems, this week’s average office occupancy still sits at about 48% of pre-pandemic levels.

Many offices have met employees in the middle, adopting hybrid work models, meaning workers can continue working from home on certain days of the week.

However, remote work has its defenders. Some workers have told CNN the ability to work remotely has changed their lives for the better and that they would rather quit their jobs than return to in-person work.

“Some people work better from home. I never wake up dreading work because I am in the comfort of my home,” copywriter Ryan Bernsten told CNN last year.

Rich people get so mad about being slightly inconvenienced, they believe lying rich people friends made up stories about being inconvenienced. It's a power trip. Management and rich people need someone around them that they can be disrespectful to to prop themselves up. That's all it is.

All reports show productivity and happiness went up across the board in working from home companies. These people just want people kissing their asses and that they can bully to make themselves feel useful

People slack off working from home and I work in security so it makes us have to do more work that shouldn't have to be done for supposedly secure systems when you have remote work

Not gonna lie, the smart people are the ones going back to the office cause when management finally starts realizing the potential of AI, the people that aren't there in person are probably going to be the first ones replaced. To be sure, it's not like much will actually change other than payroll will get cheaper if you're already "out of sight and out of mind". At least if you're in the office, firing you actually requires some courage because of the human aspect of things, remote terminations are as simple as an email.

People that want to be in the office all day either has no friends and that's the only source of human connection or they are just pure losers on a power trip.

Study after study has shown working from home not only increases worker happiness, but also increase work motivation and productivity.

If my work went back to full time in the office for something I been doing for the last 3 years I'd quit. There's enough sales jobs I can get that's WFH that would love to have me.

Your gonna do less work working from the office. Trust me. People will stretch out a 20 minute project to 1 hour instead of just finishing it in 20 minutes like they do at home.

i'm overemployed right now (2 full time jobs simultaneously at the same time) ... this is only possible because of remote working .

there are people (including on boxden) with 3-4 full time jobs , especially during covid when every single company was remote , these people had 500k salaries
