Western Digital announces Xbox expandable storage cards, starting at $79.99

A second Xbox Series S / X expandable storage manufacturer should hopefully push prices down.

Western Digital is offering some much-needed competition in the Xbox expandable storage card market today. Western Digital is now offering its own 512GB and 1TB expansion cards for Xbox Series S / X consoles. It’s the first time we’ve seen Xbox expandable storage that’s not manufactured by Seagate, and Western Digital’s own cards are priced at $79.99 for the 512GB model and $149.99 for the 1TB version.

Nice. Still not sure why MS went proprietary. But at least other companies can make them so that helps keep prices in check.

Definitely wasn’t a great decision. They probably was thinking nobody wanted to take the system apart to do that, but fu#k that $300 for 2TB sh1t.

They went proprietary so that the SSD would have a longer use life and for the ease of use.

That honestly makes no sense. Make it so multiple companies can make it and keep prices lower. And how does it being proprietary make the ssd list longer?

Still too expensive I just bought a 2TB 7500 read speed for ~$140 for ps5 and you’re barely getting 1TB for that price, guess I’ll keep rocking this hard disk drive on my Xbox series S swapping games back and fourth but also fu#k seafate I hope nobody buys their sh1t

Ease of use and the way they crafted the inside of the the Series X and S, they probably ain't want anyone in there touching sh1t

I watched some videos of the Series X being taken apart and things are put together so perfectly in there and it's so small compared to the PS5, it woulda been a hassle and probably ruined the design to make the ssd slot easily accessible.

Good for those that need it. I only play like 3-4 games so I doubt I will but you never know I guess. But that goes back to having an idea what you need and why before purchasing a console.

Again this card just slides I to the back slot on the series x. You don't need to unscrew anything. That's why I'm wondering why they didn't let anyone makes these cards off jump.

Same as now with wd and Seagate making them. Not sut why they had it the way they do. Just confused

The speed at which the SSD runs lengthens the life expectancy.

Ok I'm with you on that part. But why not open it up for everyone to make instead of allowing one company at first to have it. I'm just confused by MSs thinking on this one

Shared manufacturing costs, paid licensing contract, constellations are in alignment. Who knows.

Yes. It's pretty much a removable version of the internal NVMe SSD.
